The Universal Exposition of 1889 was held in Paris and was a highly successful world's fair celebrating French achievements on the centennial of the French Revolution. Over 80 structures exhibited architecture, fine arts, and new technologies. A central attraction was the Eiffel Tower. Vincent van Gogh and other Impressionist artists like Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, and Degas were working during this period. New inventions like the automobile were also introduced. Music included operas by Cilea and Fuchs as well as musical theater productions.
