Human thinking does not follow a logical or continuous pattern. When telling something to someone else, we impose order by writing it down for clarity and to convey our idea. The arrangement of words in a sentence determines the meaning. Likewise, the sequencing of sentences in a paragraph decides its meaning. A good paragraph has a topic sentence that introduces the topic, maintains unity of thought on that single topic through coherent, mutually connected sentences that build upon one another.
