The students visited the Perth Mint where they saw the largest solid gold coin in the world weighing over 200kg. They watched a solid gold bar being melted at over 1000 degrees and had their weight measured to see how much gold they would be worth.
Science alive
The Science Alive incursion covered forces like gravity and air pressure. It was an interactive experience where students learned about these scientific concepts through hands-on demonstrations and experiments. Children can now explain to parents what they learned about different forces from the activities at the Science Alive event.
Japanese incursion
A Japanese cultural event was held last week where students told a story about a run away rice ball being chased by mice, some students danced and others played instruments. The incursion provided an entertaining experience that was enjoyed by all who participated.
Writing
Students compared their early writing from this year to a recent piece and found that their writing had improved significantly. They noticed they were better at organizing their ideas, using more descriptive language, and editing their work for spelling and grammar mistakes.
I got this hat
National Simultaneous Storytime was held on May 25th where students across Australia were read the same book, "I Got This Hat", at the same time. Room 24 participated by watching a video of a comedian acting out and reading the story instead of their teacher, finding it so entertaining they watched it several times.
Cross country
A cross country event was held where students from Room 24 participated. Asha came in first place for the girls, with Poppy in second and Olive in third. For the boys, Thomas finished second, Tom third, and Noah fourth. Asha, Poppy, Olive, Thomas, Tom, and Noah qualified to participate in the interschool cross country event. Poppy, Asha, and Thomas received medals from their teachers for their placements. All students from Room 24 did a great job in the cross country event.
