The Paleo Indians were the first people to inhabit Georgia over 13,000 years ago. They were nomadic hunter-gatherers who lived in temporary dwellings and used tools and weapons made of stone. The Archaic Indians lived in Georgia from 8000 BC to 1000 BC, building more permanent settlements while still moving seasonally for food. They created tools and weapons from stone and bone and hunted deer, rabbits, and gathered nuts and shellfish.
