This document discusses the development of an open data platform in Pakistan for disaster mapping and crowdsourcing information during floods in 2010. A short code was launched to collect situation reports from affected areas via SMS. Volunteers including techies, crisis mappers, and community managers collaborated on the crowdsourcing effort to map conditions on the ground and reach as many people as possible. This led to the creation of additional crowdsourcing and microwork platforms to provide opportunities for large unemployed populations and support disaster response efforts through open collaboration.
