Pakistan's film industry experienced its golden era in the 1960s-1970s, producing over 200 films per year. This era included very successful films and launched the careers of many legendary actors and musicians. However, the industry declined in the late 1970s due to lack of government support, loss of East Pakistan, rise of television, and new Islamic laws. Recently, several Pakistani films have achieved critical and commercial success, winning international awards and breaking domestic box office records, suggesting the industry may be reviving after facing collapse for many years.

debut of its first woman film director in the legendary singer
and actress Noor Jahan(1951).

was Jago Hua Swera (The Day
Shall Dawn, 1959).
 The movie was filmed in Dhaka,
East Pakistan (contemporary
Bangladesh) by the East Pakistan
Film Development Corporation.

daily lives of the fishermen of
East Pakistan and won a major
award at the Moscow
International Film Festival.

12. Pakistani feature film, Lamha (also known as Seedlings) won
the Best Feature Film Award at the DC South Asian Film
Festival – where it was the only Pakistani film to be aired.
Lamha has also won two awards at the New York City
International Film Festival – the Best Feature Film (Audience
Choice) and Best Actress in a Lead Role award, which went to
Aamina Sheikh.
