1896, films were released at the
Novelty Theatre on a regular

Pundalik does not deserve the honour of being called the first

named Johnson—was a British national and the film was
processed in London.

Immediately following the independence of Pakistan in
1947, the newly founded Pakistan being a new state
faced a shortage of funds. Shortage of filming
equipment further paralysed the nation's film industry.
With much hardships faced, the new film industry was
able to produce its first feature, Teri Yaad on 1948.

The '60s decade is often cited as being the golden age
of cinema in Pakistan.
Pakistan saw the introduction of first color films. Some
that share the status of being firsts are Azra and
Sangam(first full-length colored film) and Mala in
early 60s.
Legend Waheed Muraad stepped into the industry
known as choclate hero of that time.
Armaan,Dheewar Bhabhi,Aag,Ashiyana etc are famous
films of that time.
17. Decline
Partition of Bangladesh caused Pakistan film industry
to lose its number of cinemas.(AINA film was popular
film in that time).
In 70s,when Zia ul Huq began to islamacize the
country ,film industry was first victim in change as
government closed cinemas and introduced taxes
which decreased audience.
Another blow was Waheed Muraad’s death which was
the officially end of Pakistan cinema.

Geo Films continued efforts with
their 'Revival of cinema.
In 2007,Khuda Key Liye became a
big hit of Pakistani cinema.
In 2012,Waar became biggest hit.
