Padre Pio was born in 1887 in Italy and lived his life there. He became a Capuchin priest and was famous for receiving the stigmata. Padre Pio received the wounds of Christ in his hands, feet, and sides and had them for the rest of his life, making him one of few people besides St. Francis of Assisi to receive the stigmata. He was known for his gifts of healing, bilocation, prophecy, and living without food or sleep. Padre Pio was declared a saint in 1999.
