Social media project with Kakaotalk, Wechat, Snapchat

This project is based on facebook fanpages of each chatting program such as Kakaotalk, Snapchat, Wecaht. Through this project, I'd like to prove what is the pros and cons of kakaotalk's fanpage on facebook. As comparing to two competition brand, I suggest ways to operate activation plan.

  3. 3. Social media project Introduction of project Honestly when I was in the UK, Of all my friends, no one know about kakaotalk apart from Japanese. At that time I was really shocked. Because I thought that lots of people use Kakaotalk App like korean. I was quite curious if people don’t know kakaotalk, which app they use. So I asked some questions to my friends who from EU country, Britain, America. The results of my survey were quite interesting, usually people who from America & UK & EU country use ‘whats app, kik’. However the most popular App was ‘Snapchat’ in UK & Euroup. So many people tend to talk to use Snapchat instead of original chatting application. That’s why I’d like to analyze more specific about those three application relation to Facabook.

It reached 57 million users registered on August 2012. On average, 24 million users are estimated to be using the app on a daily basis and over 3.4 billion messages are sent every day. KakaoTalk provides free call and text-messaging services. In addition, users can share diverse content and information from photos, videos, voice messages, and URL links to contact information. Starting from March 17, 2013, KakaoTalk began TV commercials in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam by joining hands with famous Korean K-pop stars, Big Bang. In the commercial, local celebrities and BigBang appear together on the screen and promote KakaoTalk [Reference: Wikipedia]

Also, KakaoTalk is trying to attract global consumers by introducing its new voting system ‘Kakao Poll’ or multichannel technology in foreign markets earlier than in the Korean market.

They haven’t uploaded their fanpage since July 2013.Before that, usually they upploaded their status once or twice a month. Mostly they wrote down their new functions about chatting program. some people who use kakaotalk at first can get a new specific information clearly.
  7. 7. Social media project 02. Analysis of kakaotalk’s fanpage If they upload some posting on their facebook, people input their ID as a comment. Also they have the other page about being a friend as entering User’s ‘kakao talk ID’. It means they can make a friend on facebook fanpage.

  11. 11. Social media project 03. Analysis of competitor’s fanpage WeChat is a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by Tencent in China, first released in January 2011. WeChat provides multimedia communication with text messaging, hold-to-talk voice messaging, broadcast (one-to-many) messaging, photo/video sharing, location sharing, and contact information exchange. WeChat supports social networking via shared streaming content feeds and location-based social plug-ins. Snapchat is a photo messaging application developed by Stanford University students, first released in September 2011. Using the app, users can take photos, record videos, add text and drawings, and send them to a controlled list of recipients. These sent photographs and videos are known as "Snaps". Users set a time limit for how long recipients can view their Snaps (the range is from 1 to 10 seconds), after which they will be hidden from the recipient's device and deleted from the Snapchat server. Their postings are relation to famous celebrities who have Wechat account. So If they have some good news, Wechat share and announce their news instead of them to use a wechat fanpage. In addition, the fan totally have fun this postings and their response to the status is good. Even in now everyday they are uploading their status and also they like sharing their feeling with fans. Sometimes they try to make interesting cartoons. Exaggerated and funny characters make you feel put a smile on your face.
  13. 13. Social media project 03. Analysis of competitor’s fanpage Snap chat 544,832 If someone send photo to Snapchat fails, they’ll select a photo which one is the funniest thing. Then they share the picture with their fans. Lots of fans Join this page so they can upload as much as they can. Everyday they upload funny pictures on their fan page. Fans can get energy from that kind of pictures in their daily life.

In fact, I couldn’t find having a something in common. so I have no Idea about people who tagged on their postings. If they don’t have any rule about that, the other fans would feel left out.

SWOT & Insight of Kakaotalk ㅇThey have lots of functions. compare to other App. ㅇIf someone has smart phone in Korea, almost people use Kakaotalk. ㅇNowadayes they try to spread their market. ㅇ They can seek a wide fans among the nation. ㅇIn global market, their name isn’t familiar to foreigners. ㅇEven if they make a fanpage in 2010, not so many people joined. ㅇA lot of chatting application is created. ㅇThe other chating app of fan page is really revitalized.
  16. 16. Social media project 04. SWOT & Insight of Kakaotalk At first, I didn’t know that not so many people joined kakao talk’s Fan page. Secondly, I think their promotional strategies have some problem compared to Wechat & Snapchat. Because Kakaotalk has not so much in the way of entertainment in that fanpage. They just focus on sharing fan’s ID. Thirdly, before analyzing those three application, I didn’t know their exact function like voting program in Kakaotalk. But now I got a more information of three App.

Because lots of people are sharing their ID every posting. ㅇ If they add a new function of that application, they’ll let them know how nice it is. ㅇ Usually they’re uploading their daily status such as ‘Have fun on Friday night!’ Fans can know some celebrities news earlier than the other people By using a QR code. Every day they are uploading funny picture on their page. So people can laugh every day. Also If fans have a funny photo, they can send it.
  18. 18. Social media project 05. Recommendation for Kakaotalk “How to improve kakaotalk’s facebook page” Basically they should be uploading their status regularly. Even if they have a hard work. If they upload everyday, fan would get a trust to them. If someone ask some questions about new function of kakaotalk on fanpage, they should answer them dutifully. They should make a new promotional strategies like nowadays videos are one of the popular items on facebook. Therefore, they should produce really great content. They should try to find what is the most popular trend on facebook . For instance, uploading a funny photo in our daily life and famous saying to touch their mind.
