ABSTRACT
The rationale of the present study was to design and prepare a combination product of naproxen and esomeprazole tablet by layer by layer tableting method. In this method shellac, cellulose acetate phthalate, methacrylic acid (copolymers), polyvinyl acetate phthalate and hypromellose phthalate were used as an enteric coating agent, to provide delayed action of naproxen, and esomeprazole was combined as an immediate release part which was added as a drug layer around the enteric coated naproxen core through a coating suspension.article_wjpr_1432986055-1
This document describes the design, preparation, evaluation, and in vitro studies of multilayer tablets combining naproxen and esomeprazole using layer-by-layer tablet technology. The tablets were developed to provide immediate release of esomeprazole and delayed release of naproxen using various enteric coating polymers. Tablets were evaluated at different stages and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed no drug-excipient interactions. In vitro dissolution tests demonstrated the enteric coating provided protection of naproxen in acid media and followed different drug release kinetics models. The results indicate this formulation successfully combined naproxen and esomeprazole into a single tablet.
