Love is a complex set of emotions associated with affection, protectiveness, warmth and respect for another person. The "love hormone" oxytocin is released during hugging, touching and sex, and is secreted by the pituitary gland. Oxytocin causes feelings of intimacy and closeness, protects against stress by stimulating peacefulness, helps mothers bond with their babies through milk letdown, and aids in reducing social anxiety and increasing sociability.
