This was a presentation/lecture done on Rally Day, September 12, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church, Livingston, New Jersey.
The instrumental music ("Wonderful Words of Life") that accompanies this slide cast was downloaded from a free music site
http://www.audiotreasure.com/mp3/Music/index.htm
This site was recommended to my by my cousin brother Joe Uthup who is studying Music at Indiana University.
The music/Hymn "Wonder Words of Life" (Sing them over again to me wonder word of life,..... teach me faith and duty beautiful words of life.....) is dear to me. I used to play the organ and assembled a group of my fellow students in High School, St, Therese High School (Presentation Convent), Delhi, India and organized the Morning Assembly Prayer of the school from my class (9th Std).
The music was composed by Philip B. Bliss in 1874. The complete hymn (words & music) can be viewed and downloaded from the http://www.digitalhymnal.org/dhymn.cfm?hymnNumber=286
Parents are the first and foremost teachers of the faith in any religion. Yet some parents struggle with passing on the faith effectively to their children. This presentation discusses the foundation of parents as first teachers of the faith, but extends the discussion to include ways the faith community can respond to support parents in that role of first teachers of the faith.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Editor's Notes
Good morning All, Since it is Rally Day, I have prepared a presentation with 10 question quiz. The presentation is divided into 4 major sections: About Martin Luther & the Lutheran Church Christian Stewardship Rally Day Christian Education At the end of each section there is few questions. Please write down the answers to the questions in the sheets given to you.
This is an outline of my presentation. I am not going to play the entire video About Martin Luther- Historical Narration by Rick Steves because of the time. This is a very good video for those who want to learn more about Martin Luther, Reformation in the Catholic Church/ evolution of Protestantism & establishment of Lutheran Church. I learned about the Reformation and World History in the 9 th and 10 th std (St. Therese High School/Presentation Convent, Delhi, India) History Class. Martin Luther was born in the German town of Eiselben. He started teaching first in the University town of Wittenberg The second link talks about the evolution of Lutheran Church in America. Some of the first Lutherans who came to the U.S settled in the states of New York & New Jersey as early as the 16 th Century. Click on the link to view the Video/Webcast.
Now going on to the 1 st section Quiz Question 1, In which ………..
Now moving on to the second section of my presentation. It is on Christian Stewardship. When Phil requested me to make a presentation on Rally Day on Stewardship I did some research and contacted Rev. Knolhof who is the Director of Stewardship Ministry at Missouri Synod. Upon my request, he sent me his presentation on Stewardship, I have taken a few slides from his presentation and included in mine. So what is Christian Stewardship?
Does any one want to read this slide?…… Please pay particular attention to this slide and the slide on who is a Steward?, as this will be asked in the quiz of this section.
What are the goals of Stewardship? According to Rev. Knolhoff one of the Goals of Christian Stewardship is to enlarge….. Please note it is about all of life not just about money. The second goal is to elevate…..
So who is a Steward? To me a steward is one who uses his talent (God’s Precious Gifts) to manage, share it with others as the child of God.
Now let’s take the quiz on Christian Stewardship. Q.4 Write down…… Q.5 True or False I give you five minutes to write this
Now moving on to the next section on Rally Day? Does everyone know when Rally Day began? What are some of the Rally Day traditions, how is it celebrated traditionally and by the Lutheran Church? Rally Day began in ……. Resources: Prayer with Purpose-Christian Education Month Guide http://www.lcms.org/pages/print.asp?print=1&NavID=5333&path=%2Fpages%2Frpage.asp
What does Rally Day signify for us Lutherans?’ Rally day is one……
Moving to our second last quiz on Rally Day Question 6. When did Rally Day begun? Question 7.What did Rally day commemorate? Question 8. What is the meaning of Rally Day, what does is signify?
Moving to our final quiz and section on Christian Education…. “The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom” Q.9 ) Can you name the books and verse number in the Bible where this is written? I know this is a difficult one…. Clue there are…..
1 st book- Book of Job Chapter 28, verse number 28. 2 nd Book- Book of Psalms, Psalm 111, versus 10. 3 rd Book- Book of Proverbs, Chapter 1 versus 7. Does anyone want to read these books and verses from the slide?
The last question of the quiz is … Can you name the city and country where the three Kings (Three Wise Men) lay to rest? This is a difficult one… the clue is look at the flag on left top corner? Which city has this flag. It shows the crown of the three Kings.
The shrine of the three Kings is in Cologne (Koln), Germany. When I went to Germany to take an International Management Course in the MBA program (from Warwick, UK) at Mannheim Business School, Germany in April-May, 2007, I visited the shrine of the three Wise Men in the Bible at Cologne (Pronounced Koln), Germany. The photos I took did not come out too well (was a cloudy day and dark inside the Cathedral) so I took these from wikipedia.org. At this site you can read more about the shrine and the city of cologne and how the bones of the three Kings came to rest here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrine_of_the_Three_Kings http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cologne_Cathedral Please hand me back your papers so I can mark them and get back to you soon, please wait to hear back the results. The 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd persons will get a small award for their participation and getting the answers correct.
I was planning to get medals for the 1 st three winners of the quiz, however I did not hear back from the company in ordering the medals, have inscription written at the back of the quiz, maybe it can be done for next year. I will mark the answer sheets of those who returned them to me and the 1 st , 2 nd & 3 rd winners of the quiz will get a small prize/gift. All Participants will receive a certificate of completion/achievement which will be handed next Sunday, the 19 th . Some example of Rally Day celebrations at other congregations include: Planning worship services around Christian education and children's ministry, Members sending cards and gifts to Sunday-school children and teachers, and fellowship opportunities after services celebrating the new Sunday-school year.
Here are the answers to the Quiz. I am giving you this slide and slide # 8 for your information along with your answer sheet.
