HOW TO DRAW AN OVAL UPON ITS TWO AXES
1) Let s imagine AB and CD are the given axes. Place the compass on O
(center of the oval) and draw an arch with radius AO. You will get point E over
the extension of CD. Join A to C by means of a line
2) Draw an arch from point C and radius CE, you will get point F on AC. As a
consequence, you will have transferred CE over AC (in blue color)
3) Draw the perpendicular bisector of AF (in pink color). You will get points O1 and O2
on AB and CD as a result of the intersection between the perpendicular bisector and
the axes
4) Place the compass in O and take radius OO1 (in red color) and OO2 (in blue color).
Draw two arches so that you can get two new points on the axes, O3 and O4
5) Join points O2 to point O1 and O3 and O4 to O1 and O3. Extend the lines as you can
see in the picture below
6) Draw two circles with center in O1 and O3 and radius, respectively, O1A and O3B.
You will get points 1, 2, 3 and 4 on the pink lines
7) Finally, place the compass in points O2 and O4 and radius O21 and O43, draw two
arches (in green color in the picture) and you are almost done
8) Get rid of everything you don´t need any longer and that´s all. The good point here
is that you can decide how long your axes are going to be so that you can change the
oval appearance according to your goals
