2. OBJECTIVES:
1. To be aware that Christ’s redemption demands radical
conversion.
2. To cultivate new attitudes and conviction trusting in the
powerful effects of Christ’s redemption.
3. To seek light and strength in prayers in overcoming
obstacles to freely live according to the ways of the “new,
redeemed person”.
3. LEARNERS ACTIVITY
Brainstorming: “Let us Dream for a Better
World”
SCENARIO 1: Ang mga Pinoy ay pangit at
puno ng kaguluhan...
SCENARIO 2: The poor self-image of
Pinoys: walang “K” (kakayahan); always
conscious of what others might say
4. LEARNERS ACTIVITY
SCENARIO 3: Ang Pinoy ay puno ng kangitngitan...
full of grudges and hurts, unable to cultivate good
relationship. Each one is suspect to each one’s
reputation...
SCENARIO 4: Ang Pinoy ay mahilig sa “3 P’s”:
Power, possession at pleasure. Bahala na ang
masagasa-an as long as there is material gain, or
access to power or offers to pleasurable life.
•
5. How do you feel about the imagined result of your dreams?
• From the 4 scenarios given in the
activity, and the corresponding
dreams that project the ideal
community situation, choose one
little way where you can help realize
the dream.
6. • The preceding passage is the Christian revolution.
Prior to Jesus power and wealth were used for selfish
motives to the point of using other people and
discarding them were they become useless. Jesus
changed all that. Power and wealth are now to be used
to serve others.
7. • First, we can avoid the stigma of being “ugly
Filipinos” when we believe that God loves us, accepts
and cares for us. Why can’t we “trust” God when
Christ Himself reveals to us that God is truly our
loving father, compassionate and so sent His Son to
the world that we might have life through Him? (1Jn.
4,9 cited in CFC 548).
8. • Second, CFC 586 tells us that when we are liberated from a life “with
hurts and grudges” then we can be “man/woman-for-others.” Through
word and example, Christ taught that true happiness and self-fulfillment
come from forgiving others, and helping the poor and the needy. He
empowers them for this service by sending them His own loving Spirit. It
is Christ’s Spirit that brings deep “love, joy, peace, patient endurance,
kindness, generosity, faith, mildness and chastity” (Gal. 5, 22-23).
9. •Third, to those who seek happiness in riches,
reputation and power, Christ gave the example of
rejecting these temptations (cf. Mt 4: 1-11) and
urging simplicity of life (cf. Mt 6) (CFC 587).
11. • Saint Paul is one of the most important and
influential of all the saints.
• Many of his writings are contained in the Canon
of the Bible and have influenced the growth and
development of the Church since the first
Century.
• St. Paul was originally known as Saul, and he
was a Roman citizen and a Pharisee. Saul
experienced a powerful vision that caused him to
convert to Christianity while on the road to
Damascus. He was duly baptized and took the
name Paul.
12. • Paul eventually made his way to Spain, then
returned to the East, and finally returned to Rome
once again. In 67 AD, Paul was arrested in Rome
for a second time and this time he was beheaded
under the insane Emperor Nero. According to John
Chrysostom, Nero knew Paul personally.
• Paul is among the most famous, intelligent and
influential of the apostles.
13. Process Questions:
1. What helped St. Paul in his conversion?
2. How did St. Paul convert radically?
3. What lessons did you learn from the life
story of St. Paul? How will you apply these
learnings?
14. Truly, He brought us to a new way of life handling our day to day living.
We can be co-responsible when we do our part by:
• Thinking of God as our loving Father, and believe it in our heart and
mind. It is a reality.
• Believing in our own inalienable self-worth in God, as well as the dignity
of every other person.
• Focusing after clarifying the authentic hierarchy of values in life.
15. Thus, Christ’s redemption demands from us a
changed attitude of a liberated person. Christ
showed us what this means. To be:
- Free from servile fear of God
- Free from self-doubt
- Free from negative relationship with others
- Free from our own greed and riches, reputation
and power (CFC 588)
