India is located in the northern hemisphere between latitudes 8 degrees 4'N and 37 degrees 6'N. It extends longitudinally between 68 degrees 7'E and 97 degrees 25'E. There is about a two hour difference between the local times of the easternmost point in Arunachal Pradesh and the westernmost point in Gujarat due to India's large east-west expanse. The Indian Standard Time is based on the 82 degrees 30'E meridian. India shares land borders with seven countries, some of which do not have access to oceans. For administrative purposes, India is divided into 29 states and 7 union territories.
