- 2. What is aOTS? • An opening Title Sequence is a clip before the start of a film or programme showing cast members and plot as well as narrative enigmas.
- 3. The purpose ofan OTS is... • Its purpose is to introduce the film to the audience so they know where it is, where its set, the cast, the crew and the credits. • OpeningTitle Sequences are also used to explain which direction the story is going in and narrative enigmas that could occur.
- 4. Juno • This OTSsets the scene. It’s showing the location that the film is set in. It doesn’t give much away about the setting. • It shows an average teenage girl walking through town to get home. It isn’t clear on what is going to happen and creates a narrative enigma: where is she going?
- 5. Girl with theDragon Tattoo • The OTS uses black and white surreal animated images while it displays the credits.They do not make a lot of sense which leaves the audience with narrative enigmas. • The combination of the black and white images and the music make the OTS quite intense.The use of black in the OTS will make the give the impression that the film will have a dark event within it. It also signifies the film will be dark, violent and disturbing. • The music makes the audience feel uncomfortable which sets the mood for the film as it’s going to be twisted and distressing for the audience.
- 6. Skyfall • The factthat a lot of things associated with death are shown, means that a red herring is used to throw the audience off the plot. Knives and gravestones connotes that Bond has died.This of course isn’t the case. • The series of scenes, which features in every Bond film, sets up the film and makes you realise that Bond is still alive.
- 7. Forrest Gump • Atthe start of the OTS, the camera follows a leaf that has fallen from the tree until it softly lands next to the main character.This signifies that the audience are about to follow the story of the main character.

Hostage • The OTStells us the film will be established and will focus the film around a city.This tells us the action will take place in the city. • The OTS uses dull and dark images and colours to connote that the film will not be pleasant but will be in fact dangerous, dark and crude. • The OTS is also in the linear form we can tell it is foreshadowing the events of the film.

Flubber • The OTStells us the film will be based around science and experiments, suggesting the protagonist/main character is successful with one of his creations. • It also introduces us to the actors and crew which can make us look forward to the film as it has legends like Robin Williams in it. • The OTS is in linear form to let the story unfold and the intro immediately shows inventions that the main character has created, signifying he’s intelligent and resourceful. • The music is energetic and friendly, reinforcing that it’s going to be exciting and aimed at children.
