2. • Our media product follows some of the
conventions of a typical horror film. One of
the ways it follows the conventions is shown
in the location we used for the scene where
Alison gets killed. The screen shot below
shows the location:

3. • We chose to do this scene in an isolated area
because when conducting research into the
genre we found that most of the killing scenes
took place in a location where the victim can't
escape or where there is no one to help
them, which was usually in a forest or woods.

4. • Another way in which our film has kept the
conventions of horror is through lighting in
the happy scenes. Most of the clips in our
film had the same level of brightness, we
adjusted the brightness of the happy scenes
by making them brighter because we wanted
it to contrast with the killing scene. As seen

6. • To add to this we used the effect of slow motion on the happy
scenes, because they are flashbacks of the key moments in Alison
and Chad's relationship. This creates a romantic feel and contrast
with the clips that are moving in normal time, which also adds a
suspenseful atmosphere. However I think the way we decided to
present the flashbacks to some extent challenges the conventions of
horror because in other films the flashbacks are shown in black and
white or in another unnatural lighting.
• Initially we had planned to have the flashback scenes to be in black
and white to show that it is a flashback, however the effect wasn't
working properly on the software we were using to edits so we
decided to increase the brightness because it shows that it is a
flashback. The titles of our film also keep to the conventions of
horror films. Below is a frame from our film with titles:

7. • The font colour is red, which we found was used in most films
in this genre as it connotes anger, danger, and rage which are
the emotions that Chad is feeling when he kills Alison. If we
were to create the whole film the audience would get to see
that Chad is a quick tempered character. Another reason we
used red was because it grabes the attention of the
audience, especially because the background is black which
makes it stand out and it adds a touch a mystery because the
audience will never get to know much about Alison as she
dies at the beginning of the film.
• For the font we used American typewriter because it was
simple and slightly old fashioned which would suit because it
is 10 years in the past. The costumes we have used for our
film are what teenagers would wear. This would fit the
conventions of horror because in films like Sorority Row

8. • The characters are dressed in what girls their age would wear for example
jeans and t-shirt. We have tried achieve the same thing in our film. Below
is a still frame of Chad and Alison
• They are casually dressed with both of them wearing jeans. Chad is
wearing a hooded which is what guys of the same age (16-20) would
mostly wear. We have used a Dutch angle shot to show that Alison dead.
This makes it very dramatic and creates tension and uneasiness for the
audience which was what we were trying to achieve.
