HISTORY
Originally built as NEXUS 1 at Samsung Heavy Industries,
South Korea, completed in July 2009, and subsequently laid
up as unable to secure a contract.
Vessel is capable of storing 950,000 barrels, with a daily
production capacity of 80,000 barrels of oil and 1.5 million
cubic metres of gas per day.
Sold to OSX End 2009/beginning 2010 and modified in Keppel
Shipyards (Project management by BW Offshore) and arrived
in Brazil October 2011.
Eventually on location at Compos Basin, January 2012.
Vships initial vessel survey May 2015.
Project team onboard September 2015.
Sail away January 2016. Arrival Lyngdal 2nd March 2016

TAKEOVER & PREPARATION
A detailed study and information gathering was carried out and
procedures developed to determine equipment condition and plan
For the take over of the process and marine equipment.
Coincidental with this, a preservation plan was developed.
Cleaning of the process equipment was carried out and preservation
was commenced by the onboard project team and technicians
from a third party specialists DEVA.
The decision was made to use VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor)
chemicals for preservation rather than traditional dehumidification
methods
PRESERVATION
Preservation procedures have been developed and applied to
all process areas.
Topside vessels, pipe work, valves.
Crude, Seawater, Freshwater, Cooling/Heating Media.
STP (Swivel Turret Production)
1st Stage, 2nd Stage and Test Seperators.
Pressure relief valves and Flare system.
Water Treatment and Injection systems.
TEG System (Triethylene Glycol).
HP, LP and Fuel Gas Compression.
Gas Turbine Generator Power Production.
Topside Instrumentation.
Topside Motors and Electrical Systems.
Switchboards HV and LV.
Electrical Transformers.
ESP (Electric Submersible Pumps) Units.

Preservation for the marine systems is currently underway for the
following systems.
Main Engines, Gear Boxes and CPP (Controllable Pitch Propeller).
Main Diesel Generators.
Steering Gear.
Fuel and Lube Oil Purifiers.
Boilers.
Inert Gas System.
Various pumps and miscellaneous machinery.
Deck Cranes.
Cargo Oil Tanks.
PRESERVATION
Several procedures for preservation by operation, and monitoring
of the equipment condition have been developed.
These include:
Weekly running of Emergency Generator, lifeboat engines etc.
Weekly turning of Main Engines and Generators, Gearboxes & CPP.
Weekly running of system lubrication oil.
Weekly turning of various electric motors and pumps.
Regular monitoring of system corrosion state by ‘Corrosion Coupons’.
Regular inspection of the material state and integrity of the
Preservation methods applied.
Regular testing of Insulation Resistance on Electrical Motors
and Circuits.

TAKEOVER & PREPARATION A detailed study and information gathering was carried out and procedures developed to determine equipment condition and plan For the take over of the process and marine equipment. Coincidental with this, a preservation plan was developed. Cleaning of the process equipment was carried out and preservation was commenced by the onboard project team and technicians from a third party specialists DEVA. The decision was made to use VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) chemicals for preservation rather than traditional dehumidification methods

  • 35. PRESERVATION Preservation for the marine systems is currently underway for the following systems. Main Engines, Gear Boxes and CPP (Controllable Pitch Propeller). Main Diesel Generators. Steering Gear. Fuel and Lube Oil Purifiers. Boilers. Inert Gas System. Various pumps and miscellaneous machinery. Deck Cranes. Cargo Oil Tanks.
  • 36. PRESERVATION Several procedures for preservation by operation, and monitoring of the equipment condition have been developed. These include: Weekly running of Emergency Generator, lifeboat engines etc. Weekly turning of Main Engines and Generators, Gearboxes & CPP. Weekly running of system lubrication oil. Weekly turning of various electric motors and pumps. Regular monitoring of system corrosion state by ‘Corrosion Coupons’. Regular inspection of the material state and integrity of the Preservation methods applied. Regular testing of Insulation Resistance on Electrical Motors and Circuits.

  • 48. MARINE SYSTEMS - MAIN AND GENERATOR ENGINES Remove Injectors and Starting air valves for preservation. Cleaned and tag. Apply thin film of lube oil, wrap by VCI paper and packed with plastic. Coolant drained, blinded and preserved with VCI Chemical Injection Cylinder head covers removed and rocker gear cleaned. Head covers replaced after preservation.
  • 49. MARINE SYSTEMS - MAIN AND GENERATOR ENGINES Remove injectors and Start air valves. Preservation with VCI paper, tagged and stored. Exhausts sealed with VCI impregnated film . Fuel rack linkages greased and preserved.
  • 50. MARINE SYSTEMS - MAIN AND GENERATOR ENGINES Internal preservation activities being carried out by injection of VCI chemical products in to equipment piping and internal spaces.
  • 51. INTERNAL PRESERVATION MONITORING 1st Stage Separator 20-VA-001internal monitoring of VCI with corrosion coupon suspended inside the vessel and visible through clear acrylic sheet for ease of monitoring.
  • 52. Electrical and Electronic Equipment Use of VCI VActive dispensers in Switchboard rooms to give area coverage. VCI spray activated every 30 minutes VCI Linter plates give electrical cabinets protection for 2 years. One Linter plate per cubic foot.
  • 53. INTERNAL PRESERVATION MONITORING Electric motors, junction boxes, and instrumentation cleaned, protected with VCI LQS500, neutralized with MV Aqua 350, and wrapped in VCI impregnated UV resitant shrink film.
