Rajasthan is a 14-year-old boy who lives in India, which has the second largest population in the world and one of the oldest civilizations. He walks to school near his home, while many others go by bike or rickshaw due to limited public transportation and traffic. Not all children can attend school, as some work and their rural villages lack schools, though urban children generally receive better educations.

1. Hi! My name is Rajasthan, I am
14 years old and I live in India.
Did you know that India has got
the second largest population in
the world? It’s one of the world’s
most ancient civilizations.

2. In 1922, while some
archeologists were working on a
site, they found cities from
about 3000 BC to about 1500
BC. The people here speak 16
different languages. The most
important language is Hindi.

3. What’s transportation like in your
country? There aren’t many cars or
buses here.
How do you get to school? I’m lucky
because I live very near the school
and I walk here, but many people go
by bike or rickshaw.
Traffic is terrible in general but it’s
worse at that time.

4. Not many children can go to
school here because they work
and, in many cases, there aren’t
any schools in their villages or
towns.

5. People that live in the city usually
get a better education.
I am very lucky because I live in the
city and I can read and write very
well.
