What makes OHC unique?
An organization is much more likely to improve its current
performance and underlying health by using a combination of
complementary practices rather than any one of them
alone, according to new McKinsey research.

“Sometime over the next decade,” warns renowned strategy guru
Gary Hamel in his new book, The Future of Management, “your
company will be challenged to change in a way for which it has no
precedent.” What’s even more worrisome, he argues, is that decades
of orthodox management decision-making practices, organizational
designs, and approaches to employee relations provide no real hope
that companies will be able to avoid faltering and suffering painful
restructurings.

Without hard data, bold claims are hard to resist. But new McKinsey
analysis of more than 230 businesses around the world provides
evidence for a much more subtle picture. This research, aggregating
results from the past four years, shows that strong organizational
performance is really fueled not by isolated interventions but by a
combination of three or four carefully selected complementary
ones—what we call management "practices." Executives can use a
wide range of them to improve the organizational performance of
their company.

Shaw Macons OHC goes beyond a typical employee climate survey. It
prescribes interventions to improve these elements that directly link
to financial performance.

McKinsey studies have proved that healthy companies are more
than twice likely to earn above their industry’s median profit
margin.

People profile we’ve worked with


We’ve done OHC’s with some of the local best
such as Eicher Goodearth way back in 1990 as
part of internal Organisation effectiveness. Eicher
was voted the best in HR practices by National
HRD Network for several consecutive years in the
late ‘80s and early ‘90s.

OHCs have been conducted by us for both local as
well as global companies. Some of these include
the Dusit Group of Hotels in Dubai, as well as
Convonix – a leading edge technology company in
the Internet Marketing space.

Dell’s engagement survey, famously called “Tell
Dell” was executed four times for 10,000 plus India
employees of Dell International Services while Dell
was the global #1 computer company on the
Fortune 100 list.

Comprehensive OHC assessment survey
     i.     A survey of the organization's entire population or specific segments
            (paper-based survey available for employees without computer
            access) through in depth interviews and focus groups to get a deeper
            understanding of the issues
     ii.    Additional interviews, if need be, to assess specific areas; social
            networks, top management effectiveness and change readiness

Rigorous analysis and benchmarking
     i.     OHC analysis is provided for the enterprise, business units, functional
            groups , management layers and other subgroups as decided at the
            design stage
     ii.    Results are benchmarked against a database of other best in class
            companies

Identification of organisational management practices
     i.     Each has a specific mix of management practices that delivers
            optimum performance
     ii.    An elements guide in designing an organization’s optimal
            improvement plan

Development of change programs along “themes for action”
     i.     Themes for action are developed based on the company’s optimal
            improvement plan
     ii.    Change interventions and initiatives can be short-or long-term and
            revolve around Shaw Macons other specific modules

Tracking progress
     i.     Follow up survey development would track progress and identify
            potential issues early
     ii.    Tracker survey results include Shaw Macons facilitated discussion
            with management, regarding progress made and additional
            interventions needed

An organization is much more likely to improve its current performance and underlying health by using a combination of complementary practices rather than any one of them alone, according to new McKinsey research. “Sometime over the next decade,” warns renowned strategy guru Gary Hamel in his new book, The Future of Management, “your company will be challenged to change in a way for which it has no precedent.” What’s even more worrisome, he argues, is that decades of orthodox management decision-making practices, organizational designs, and approaches to employee relations provide no real hope that companies will be able to avoid faltering and suffering painful restructurings. Without hard data, bold claims are hard to resist. But new McKinsey analysis of more than 230 businesses around the world provides evidence for a much more subtle picture. This research, aggregating results from the past four years, shows that strong organizational performance is really fueled not by isolated interventions but by a combination of three or four carefully selected complementary ones—what we call management "practices."
