Sue Reid worked for me as Director, ERP Solutions at Oracle Asia Pacific from Jan 4
to Dec 31, 1999. It is with great regret that she has decided to leave Asia for
health reasons and if it was for any other cause I would have fought hard to keep
her. She has been a vital member of my team throughout the year and has made
a considerable contribution to the strategy and direction of Oracle Asia Pacific.
Working as part of the Business and Market Development organisation, Sue had
many responsibilities including ownership at a strategic level, of the Marketing
programmes for Oracle’s suite of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions in
the Asia Pacific region. This included the budgeting and planning of complex and
expensive marketing activities to meet Oracle’s business objectives.
More importantly, she had responsibility for defining how Oracle goes to market
with these solutions. This is a considerable undertaking involving strategic
decisions on such issues as partnering and internal sales models. This difficult
task involves changing existing practices within Oracle and driving change within
the company. This has not always been easy especially when change is resisted
and requires strength of character, tact, diplomacy and confidence. Sue did this
well and earned respect throughout the Asia Pacific Division.
Sue is experienced and effective at working at all levels within the company and
external agencies such as partners, press and analysts. To do the above functions
well, she would liaise with the senior management of Oracle within the Division
and also at Corporate Headquarters in the USA. Sue is confident enough to
handle this all as a matter of routine.
Sue is a hardworking team member. She has a logical approach to each job and is
quite task orientated. This approach was a welcome addition to the less
disciplined members of the team (myself included) when the workload became very
heavy.
Sue has not had any direct management responsibility during her time at Oracle,
but she has been assessed as a potential leader during leadership training. I
believe that she would make a good manager of a small marketing team.
Sue has only been at Oracle for just under a year but in this short time she made
an impact and contributed to improving the company. On a personal level, I have
valued her skills and her approach to work and life and she will be missed by
Oracle and myself.
