OpenSHIP is an industrial research project that uses open source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to improve ship design and reduce costs. The project aims to develop a virtual prototype that simulates the interaction between a ship's hull and propeller to predict hydrodynamic performance. This will allow for reduced testing costs and improved propeller and hull designs. The consortium includes ship research, IT, university, and technology transfer organizations who will develop one-way and two-way coupling models, benchmark software, and high performance computing infrastructure over the three year project period.
