OPENi - Open-Source, Web-Based, Framework for Integrating Applications
with Social Media Services and Personal Cloudlets”
Objective: ICT-2011.1.2
Cloud Computing, Internet of Services &
Advanced Software Engineering
7 Partners : 5 Countries
Open-Source, Web-Based, Framework for Integrating Applications with Cloud-based
Services and Personal Cloudlets.
OPENi Hackathon
Athens 12th September 2014
Start date: October 2012
Duration: 30 months
OPENi - Goal
To inspire innovation in the European mobile applications
industry, by radically improving the interoperability of
cloud-based services and trust in personal cloud
storage through the development of a consumer-centric,
open source mobile cloud applications platform.
Open-Source, Web-Based, Framework for Integrating Applications with Cloud-based
Services and Personal Cloudlets.
OPENi Hackathon
Athens 12th September 2014
OPENi - Key Concepts
1. OPENi is building a common framework of web APIs to
support seamless integration of existing cloud-based
services into applications in a platform-independent way.
2. OPENi is building a number of service enablers that exploit
and enhance the richness of features available to OPENi
application developers.
3. OPENi is enabling consumers that access cloud-based
services through their applications to store and manage
their personal data and content.
Open-Source, Web-Based, Framework for Integrating Applications with Cloud-based
Services and Personal Cloudlets.

industry.
 Re-instate the consumer to the centre of the application
value chain.
 Enable them to control and take advantage of their data.
 Empower them to demand more from their applications
 Single dimension applications are not enough!
 Develop a European centre of excellence.
 Promoting co-operation and openness across the EU space.

INTEROPERABILITY AND PORTABILITY
 OPENi is an open source project and will release its software through
Open-Source, Web-Based, Framework for Integrating Applications with Cloud-based
Services and Personal Cloudlets.
github.com
 The consortium is cognisant of the need to actively contribute and adhere to
the highest possible standards if it is to establish the OPENi platform as a
trusted user-centric solution.
 Contribution to W3C workshop “Social Standards: The Future of Business”,
 OPENi has also actively joined the following groups so far:
 Social Business Community Group, with a focus on social business use cases and
application of those use cases to standards, standards improvements, and standards
gaps
 Property Graphs Model and API Community Group that explores the Property Graph
data model and API in order to decide whether this area is ripe for standardization.
OPENi Hackathon
Athens 12th September 2014
SUSTAINABILITY PLANS
 Four SME partners
 commercialize our implementation of use case scenarios
 ensure our development is sustainable and applicable in the
Open-Source, Web-Based, Framework for Integrating Applications with Cloud-based
Services and Personal Cloudlets.
real world.
 As an open source project, OPENi is creating a community
for the contribution to the sustainability of its platform.
 3 Research partners are eager to build on and expand the
OPENi outcomes.
 Plans include incorporating the OPENi platform into future
research proposals,
