Equity and REDD+: Perspectives from CIFOR’s global comparative studyCIFOR-ICRAF
This presentation was delivered by Maria Brockhaus at Lake Inle, Myanmar, in June 2015.
It details: the opportunities and risks for equity and REDD+; the need for transformational change from the 4 I perspective (institutional stickiness, ideas, interests and information); and case study examples.
This presentation was given by Kate Hawkins, Institute of Development Studies, at a capacity building workshop on research communication in April 2008.
Disasters disproportionately affect persons with disabilities. Disproportionate risk for persons with disabilities related particularly to difficulties an individual may have functioning, such as walking or hearing, and barriers to accessing information and services. Here's a summary of evidence from Cyclone Pam and Tanna Island, Vanuatu.
Local Governance, Social Networks and REDD+: Lessons from Swidden Communities...CIFOR-ICRAF
This presentation, delivered at the ASFN Sixth Conference, examines research into perceptions, understanding and discourses of two swidden farming communities. The implications for REDD+ are highlighted.

Fairfax County Community Resiliency Group (CRG) OverviewJanet Davison
The Fairfax County Community Resilience Group brings together faith communities, safety-net nonprofits, civic associations, and private businesses collaborating to provide disaster recovery resources and capabilities in partnership with local government. Working collectively to leverage the available resources, these groups will allow each community, and therefore the county as a whole, recover rapidly and effectively after an emergency. Once the seminar and tabletop exercise series are completed, there will be a total of nine Community Resilience Groups (CRGs) within the county, one per magisterial district.

How DOAJ Ambassadors and CC local communities can promote knowledge and usage...Tom Olijhoek
Scientific knowledge from the Global South is very much underrepresented in the collective scientific output worldwide. This is not different for OA publishing. Therefore DOAJ started an Ambassador programme with the main objectives to clarify the OA publishing landscape and to increase the number of quality OA journals in order to reduce the number of questionable journals in the Global South. Better understanding among the publishers about the differences and potential conflicts between copyright and licensing is vital. By building local CC communities in cooperation with the CC organization, the DOAJ programme could further improve the quality of scholarly publishing in the Global South. Increased usage of Creative Commons licensing will act against the Northern dominance in knowledge sharing.

Many African governments speak highly about role of innovation and SMEs as necessities to take Africa forward. High unemployment levels and lack of corporate employment opportunities also force people look opportunities in becoming entrepreneurs. Many NGOs and funds have invested a lot in creating a wide variety of actions around “innovation” yet concrete results – besides bunch of seminars, events and programmes – seem to be lacking.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Why You Should Replace Windows 11 with Nitrux Linux 3.5.0 for enhanced perfor...SOFTTECHHUB
The choice of an operating system plays a pivotal role in shaping our computing experience. For decades, Microsoft's Windows has dominated the market, offering a familiar and widely adopted platform for personal and professional use. However, as technological advancements continue to push the boundaries of innovation, alternative operating systems have emerged, challenging the status quo and offering users a fresh perspective on computing.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms.
