1) Ben is a teenager practicing magic tricks in his bedroom with a cloak, hat, and wand. However, his magic tricks do not work. 2) Ben tries to perform a magic trick for his parents in the living room, but fails. His dad tells him he is failing school and takes away his magic items until he passes. 3) After realizing he can actually do magic, Ben makes a lamp turn on and off with his wand. He starts to wonder what would happen if his dad died.

1. Ben, a teenager, stands in the middle of his bedroom. He
is wearing a black cloak and a top hat. He is holding a
wand and waves it delicately toward a lamp.
BEN
Oonagi!
The lamp is still motionless.
BEN
Oonagi!
The lamp remains motionless.
BEN
Shit.
Ben sits down on his bed, and looks behind him, at the
poster of "The Invincible Ian" on his wall.
A normal TV show is playing in the background.
There is a woman and man sitting on the sofa. The woman
has her hair up, and is in typical house clothes. She is
holding a glass of wine. The man is wearing a button shirt
and an undone tie. He is holding a can of beer. They are
sitting somewhat close to each other.
Ben enters the room, holding a deck of cards.
BEN
Mum, dad, prepare to be amazed!
DAD
Not now, Ben.
BEN:
Won't take long. Now, pick a card,
any card!
His dad looks annoyed and sighs. He pauses the TV and
takes a card from the deck.
BEN
Now. Was your card the jack of
diamonds?
DAD
No. It was the king of spades.
His dad un-pauses the TV.
Ben looks confused.
BEN
What? How? Wait, let me try again!
His mum and dad ignore him.
BEN
INT. BEDROOM. DAY.1 1
INT. LIVING ROOM. EVENING2 2

2. I'll just... go and practice some
more in my room.
Ben exits the living room. His dad takes a sip of his
beer.
Ben is sitting on his bed, holding and looking at the deck
of cards.
His dad enters the room, holding a letter.
DAD
Your teacher says your failing your
A-levels!
BEN
What?
DAD
Because of this magic thing!
His dad takes Ben's cloak and top hat off and his deck of
cards. He gets a box from under Ben's desk and puts the
things in it.
BEN
I'm not failing anything! I don't
know what you're talking about!
DAD
Your not getting any of this crap
back, until you pass your A-levels!
For god's sake, Ben!
Ben's dad throws the box of magic things out of the room,
and then exits, and slams the door.
Ben sits on the edge of his bed. He notices that he still
has his wand. He picks it up and smiles.
There is a shot of outside the house that lasts a few
seconds.
Ben is sitting on the floor in his bedroom, holding his
wand. He looks at the poster above his bed. He gets up,
goes onto his bed, and takes the poster off his wall.
He gets off of the bed, and puts the poster on his desk,
and looks at it. We see the poster, closely.
He looks at the poster and seems to have a realisation. He
puts his wand, from his right hand into his left hand.
He turns toward the lamp, pointing his wand at it.
BEN
Oonagi!
The lamp instantly turns off.
Ben looks very surprised.

EXT. OUTSIDE. DAY4 4
INT.BEDROOM.DAY5 5

3. Ben continues holding his wand toward the lamp.
BEN
Oonagi!
The lamp turns on.
Ben, overwhelmed, falls to the floor.
Ben's mum is folding laundry. Ben enters the room and
stands close to his mum.
BEN
Mum?
MUM
Yeah?
BEN
What would happen if dad died?
His mum looks confused.
MUM
What do you mean?
BEN
Like, if one day he was just gone.
MUM
Well... we would be very sad.
BEN
Yeah, but like. Would we be okay?
Would you be okay?
His mum continues looking confused.
MUM
I think so... I mean, I would be
very upset and it would take me a
long time to get over it. But we
would have each other... and we've
got money. Not that its about
money. But, yeah, we'd manage.
Ben nods.
MUM
You don't need to think about
things like that!
BEN
Yeah. Thanks mum.
Ben exits the room. His mum still looks confused.
Ben is standing in the living room. We see his sock
closely, with his wand pointing to it. We then see Ben,
looking down at it.
BEN
Oonagi!
INT. LAUNDRY ROOM. DAY6 6
INT. LIVING ROOM. EVENING7 7

4. The sock suddenly disappears.
Ben smiles.
Ben exits the living room, and slowly walks through the
hallway. His dad is in the bathroom, looking in the
mirror, while flossing.
Ben looks at his dad, from outside the bathroom.
Ben points his wand toward his dad.
BEN
Oonagi.
Suddenly, his dad opens the mirror door. The mirror turns
directly to Ben, while he is pointing the wand.
Ben looks shocked.
Suddenly, Ben disappears and the wand falls to the floor.
His dad looks outside the bathroom. He exits the bathroom
and picks up the wand.
He sighs and walks away.
