3. 1 SYNOPSIS OF STORYLINE
Story starts with a thunder storm night in Chicago city.
A girl who worked as an assistant architect, named Jenny, drove to the office alone to continue her
unfinished work that need to be presented on the next day. She passed by Mies van der Rohe potrait in the
office corridor, and she was wondering how Mies would made his building using simplicity approach. She
went to her seat, seeing lots complicated models and drawings on her working desk, she felt stress and
sad. Moreover, she started to recalled her recent life which were encountered lots of problem on work and
family.
While doing work, Jenny fall asleep. She found herself in front of Farnsworth house. She expressed her
anger and suddenly Mies van der Rohe was beside her. Mies started to talked to her. Knowing Jenny was
facing difficulties, Mies had given some advices to Jenny which turn her from anger to realization. She
woke up and realize it was just a dream. The conversation with Mies had changed Jenny's thinking. She
throw away her previous complicated model and start with new model making. During the meeting on next
day, Jenny's client and boss were very proud and happy with her new proposal.
Jenny passed by Mies's potrait when she wanted to leave the office. She felt that the dream with Mies had
change her point of view no matter in architecture or life. Less is more.

Sunday, 3.00AM.
Jenny running from car to her office, which is an architect firm.
PANEL 3-6
She went in the office with wet raincoats, a lot of things were on her hands. She shake her umbrella, mop
away the water from her body and hang her jacket, then switch on the lights
PANEL 7
She walked through the office corridor, with a lot of paintings and architects' portraits hanging on the walls.
PANEL 8
She stopped to see one of the portraits on the wall, which was Mies van der Rohe. the master of
modernism.
PANEL 9-10
She sighed as she cannot understand how Mies made his design look so simple. And then she went away.
Jenny: *sigh*
Jenny: How did you make it?

Jenny's feel so down when she saw her working desk was so messy, full with unfinished working sheets
and study models.
PANEL 2
She sit down and feel so sad with so many working loads on her shoulders.
PANEL 3
Suddenly lots of memory came into mind. Her client was a demanding person, he requested a lot of spaces
that Jenny's try to fulfill but at the end still being questioned by her client; While her boss not confident at
her skills and her colleague feel she over-thinking on the design. Due to busy working, she even forgot her
dad's birthday until her mum's called. She felt herself very useless.
Client: I want swimming pool
Client : I want secret garden
Client: I want more bedrooms
Client: Are you a designer?
Boss: Are you sure you can do it?
Colleague: You over-thinking it!

Jenny stunned when she found herself standing in front of Farnsworth house.

Jenny: This is over simplified! It's just a glass block!

A deep sound suddenly appeared beside Jenny'
Mies: Because you can't see the beauty of it.
PANEL 4
Jenny shocked and turned. And she saw the architect of Farnsworth house, the master of modernism, Mies
van der Rohe.

Mies Van der Rohe started to explain how the Farnsworth house is being build with simple idea.
Mies: Let's have a look on the Farnsworth house design elements.

Jenny: Focal point is emptiness .

Mies asked her whether she agree on his point of view that design less is more.

Jenny was having mix-emotion when she think of her life.
Jenny: This...

Jenny try to relate what she think of life with the Mies's simplicities in designing.
Jenny: This building does not relate to real life.
Jenny: This is too simple
Jenny: Life is so stressful.

Mies seem to know what problem that Jenny's facing.
Mies: Jenny, it depends
Mies: On how you see the world.

Mies advised Jenny to keep everything simple. Simplicity are better than complicated. Jenny started to feel
he was right.
Mies: When you think too much, things become complicated.
Mies: The key is to keep it simple.
Mies: Don't be interesting, be good.

Mies pat softly on Jenny's shoulder. he know she can do it.
Mies: Good luck, my dear friend.

A short period of time had passed.
PANEL 2
Jenny woke up, with bleary eye.
PANEL 3
She was shocked that she actually had fallen asleep on her working desk.
PANEL 4
She stared at her complicated models and drawings, and fall into deep thinking. She rewind her dream
meeting Mies van der Rohe. Even though it is just a dream but it is so real.
PANEL 5
Jenny have a new idea. She push away all her previous complicated works.
Jenny: I don't need this.
PANEL 6
Jenny start to build model, by using simple rectangle shape.
PANEL 7
Jenny finished her new model, and started to draw her ideas on the papers.

Morning 9am, Jenny taking her new model and drawing sheets to her boss's office.
PANEL 9
Boss was surprised when Jenny came in with new idea of designing the bungalow.
Jenny: Boss, I have a new proposal!

After the meeting, the boss and client were very happy with her new idea. Jenny's colleague felt happy for
her when seeing her being praised.
Client: Your idea is brilliant!
Client: I didn't know my building can have so much spaces.
Boss: Well done, Jenny!

Jenny went back to her working desk, and throw away all the unwanted models and drawings.
PANEL 3
Jenny called and told her mum that she would want to treat her parents dinner.
Jenny: Mama, tonight's dinner I will treat. See you later, will be back at 6pm.
PANEL 4
Jenny walked pass the corridor with lots of photos and paintings again. She suddenly remember the dream
of Mies van der Rohe, so she stopped.

Jenny looks into the portrait of Mies, and said thank you.
Jenny: Thank you, Mies.
