This document discusses the shift from traditional IT to cloud computing. It argues that the shift is driven more by economics than technology. Specifically, cloud computing allows organizations to convert fixed IT costs to variable costs and gain scalability. While the technology enabling cloud computing has existed since the late 1990s, factors like virtualization and the economic downturn created conditions for the model to take hold. The document outlines steps organizations can take to optimize their current IT and transition to cloud computing models, whether internal or external clouds. It also discusses opportunities for traditional service providers to participate in and help enable the cloud computing market.

Cezar Taurion discusses how cloud computing is transforming the IT industry. Cloud computing leverages virtualization, standardization, and automation to reduce costs while increasing capabilities. It allows resources to be provisioned in minutes and paid through metering/billing models. While infrastructure as a service is common, platforms and software as a service provide additional benefits. Both opportunities and challenges exist for companies and CIOs in adopting cloud computing strategies.
Cloud computing provides centralized computing resources via the internet while edge computing distributes some computing capabilities to local endpoints. As technologies like IoT and 5G emerge, edge computing is growing in importance to support applications requiring low latency. Edge computing complements cloud computing by handling data and tasks locally when immediate response times are needed, while still utilizing cloud infrastructure for storage and analytics. Both cloud and edge computing are key to enabling technologies like smart cities that generate large amounts of data from distributed devices.
This document discusses cloud computing and OpenStack, an open source cloud computing platform. It provides definitions of cloud computing and describes how OpenStack uses virtualization to effectively share resources among users. The document also outlines different types of cloud computing users and services models, including infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS). It discusses the benefits of cloud computing for end users, such as reduced costs from outsourcing hardware maintenance and access to applications from anywhere.
Cloud computing allows for shared computing resources and data storage over the internet. It provides various benefits such as reduced costs, scalability, and device independence. While concerns around security and control exist, cloud computing is seen as important for the future of technology and is gaining widespread adoption among businesses and governments. Mobile computing is also driving growth in cloud use as people demand access to resources anywhere on any device.

This document provides an overview of EMC Corporation, including its leadership in data storage solutions, cloud computing, and big data. EMC has over 60,000 employees, $21.7 billion in annual revenues, and is recognized as the industry leader in storage hardware, software, and services. The company focuses on helping customers transform their IT operations through innovative cloud and big data technologies to more efficiently store, manage, analyze, and protect information.
This document discusses how UX design is moving beyond screens as more objects and devices become connected through technologies like the Internet of Things. It notes that while many interactions still happen through screens like smartphones and computers, an increasing number of objects will become digitally enabled and connected. This will provide both opportunities and challenges for UX designers to design experiences that incorporate these connected physical objects in addition to digital interfaces. The document provides examples of connected objects currently in development and projections that over 20 billion devices could be internet-connected by 2020. It argues UX designers should start preparing for this shift by considering how to design services that enhance physical products, incorporate live data streams, and give digital services a physical embodiment.

The document discusses cloud computing, including its evolution from mainframes to client/server models to today's cloud infrastructure, platforms, and applications delivered as services. It defines cloud computing according to analysts and outlines the three main delivery models of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). The document also discusses the key benefits of cloud computing like ease of use, scalability, reliability, and cost optimization, as well as the risks including technical issues, legal concerns, and organizational challenges.
IRJET - Cloud Computing Over Traditional ComputingIRJET Journal
This document provides an overview of cloud computing compared to traditional computing. It discusses how cloud computing involves storing and accessing data and software over the internet rather than on physical hard drives within an organization. Cloud computing provides several advantages over traditional computing such as lower costs, greater flexibility, scalability, and accessibility of data from anywhere with an internet connection. However, some security and privacy concerns remain regarding data stored in the cloud. The document also reports the results of a survey that found many people, even in technical fields, have little understanding of cloud computing currently.
Impact of Cloud Computing on Service Industrywebscale
Cloud computing provides key benefits for businesses including changing capital expenditures to operational costs, allowing businesses to smoothly scale based on customer growth, and reducing IT complexity. It allows efficient use of computing power through elastic demand. Cloud adoption is occurring faster than expected, with both government and large enterprises aggressively adopting cloud technologies. Cloud computing enables new combinatorial innovations and the proliferation of data.
This presentation discusses moving enterprise IT to public cloud. It notes that enterprise IT organizations face complex environments, growing costs, and lack of resources. The cloud looks like an option to help address these issues and generate business advantage. While there are challenges with cloud adoption related to security, control, and trust, the presentation argues that cloud providers may offer greater availability, security, and efficiency than traditional IT environments through their large scale operations. It advocates a hybrid approach for enterprises, moving commodity services to public cloud while using private cloud for high value services and legacy systems, with a goal of saying goodbye to legacy over time.

Coase's LawIn the chapter The Perfect Storm, the authors give an overview of the economic effects of the kind of transactions Web 2.0 permits. According to the authors, Coase's Law (see Ronald Coase) governs the expansion of a business:A firm will tend to expand until the cost of organizing an extra transaction within the firm become equal to the costs of carrying out the same transaction on the open market.[6]However, because of the changing usage patterns of Internet technologies, the cost of transactions has dropped so significantly that the authors assert that the market is better described by an inversion of Coase's Law. That is:A firm will tend to expand until the cost of carrying out an extra transaction on the open market become equal to the costs of organizing the same transaction within the firm.[6]Thus, the authors think that with the costs of communicating dramatically dropping, firms who do not change their current structures will perish. Companies who utilize mass collaboration will dominate their respective markets.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikinomics
