Delivering fast, rich, engaging experiences across an increasing variety of mobile devices, networks, and locations is a complex challenge. All too often performance issues go unidentified due to a lack of visibility into the true end user experience and a simple way to identify the root cause - is it the mobile device, carrier, 3rd-party, back-end infrastructure or application logic that is the problem?
Join Tom Levey in this session, to discuss not only how to effectively monitor the end user experience and identify performance bottlenecks, but also measure the real-time revenue impact, by turning on the lights inside your mobile app.
Fitness band is a device which used for monitoring and tracking ones fitness- related metrics such as heart rate, distance walked, activities done, etc. and is wearable. Fitness bands were available in consumer-grade electronics by the early 2000s.
Keynote speech slides from the WT | Wearable Technologies Conference 2017 USA on July 25-26, 2017 at Fort Mason Center, San Francisco, by Frederik Hermann, Head of Marketing and Sales, Huami - Manufacturers of Amazfit and the Xiaomi Mi Band.
If you have already used a heart rate monitor for running or you already have a goal of achieving 10,000 steps a day - then chances are that you are already using wearable technology. With computing force so affordable and a multitude of available sensors, wearable technology is not only about activity tracking anymore and big name players want to have their share in the game.
Check the slides to discover the current state of wearables and the opportunity we all have in using these small devices.

Dumb and Dumber: how smart is your monitoring data?tlevey
Big Data is all the rage right now. Everyone from a social media company to your grandmother's online knitting store is suddenly a big data shop. Application monitoring tools are no exception from this trend – they collect gigabytes of monitoring data from your application every minute. But most of this data is useless. It's dumb data. More data isn't better if the data you're getting from your tools isn't helping you do your job – in fact, it's a real problem.
In this session AppDynamics will cover how to be smarter about collecting monitoring data, and how to ensure that the data we're collecting is intelligent.

The Art of the Pitch: WordPress Relationships and SalesLaura Byrne
Clients don’t know what they don’t know. What web solutions are right for them? How does WordPress come into the picture? How do you make sure you understand scope and timeline? What do you do if sometime changes?
All these questions and more will be explored as we talk about matching clients’ needs with what your agency offers without pulling teeth or pulling your hair out. Practical tips, and strategies for successful relationship building that leads to closing the deal.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
