Using ‘real’ library patron’s example questions we will use the
Internal Revenue Service’s – http://www.irs.gov - and the
Ohio Department of Taxation’s - http://tax.ohio.gov/ - Web
sites to find detailed answers.
This Webinar is intended for librarians and library
paraprofessionals who will be helping patrons to find tax
information published by our state and federal governments
on the Web and will be assisting them to begin the process of
e-filing or finding other options.

1. Click the “Individuals” Tab
2. Click on “1040 Central” and “Forms and Publications”
3. You can download forms of all kinds as well as instructions and other
publications or
4. You can e-file through several free services using your own or the library’s
computers, if necessary, or you can file through postal mail. Note Privacy
issues in using a public computer.
5. You can e-file or postal mail your filing yourself or find a volunteer group
who may be able to assist.

2. In the left navigation box “Self-Employed Topics” Click on “Publications and
Forms ”
3. Choose the form(s) indicated for your type of business. Schedule C is the core
form.
4. In the left navigation area “IRS Resources” click on “e-file” to verify that you can
e-file 1040 with Schedule C and supporting forms.
5. Under “Self-Employed Topics” Click on “More Topics” to see many excellent
workshops, tutorials, and videos.

4. Ohio Businesses are required to e-file sales taxes. All instructions and
forms are online. Click on “Frequently Asked Questions” “Sales and Use
Taxes” then “What services are subject to the sales tax?” to get the some
ideas on sales tax collection for ‘personal service’ businesses e.g., dry
cleaners, personal shoppers, etc. This patron will probably need to call.
