famine hit 150 years ago, the only potatoes that
were not blighted were the potatoes in the peat
bogs.

sphagnum moss (one of the defining characteristics of bogs) to the
UK where it was used in place of bandages to treat soldier’s wounds.
And for decades modern day mothers have gone to bog to harvest
a little peat when their children had a bad burn or injury that needed
quick healing.
However, it was not until 2003, that the legend of the bog fully re-
vealed its history and power.
The story materialized when a dead body was found, which was in
near perfect condition. The authorities believed it was a recent
death, but upon further investigation, they found that the body had
been dead for over 2,500 years.
One of the famous examples of peat moss's ability to
preserve the human tissue is "Peat bog man" He was
preserved in an unbelievable state buried in a peat bog for
thousands of years without any additional preservation.
