Recognizing the importance of the agriculture sector, SADC Member States have taken steps to unleash
its potential in the region. To achieve that ambition and provide guidance in the implementation process,
SADC Vision 2050 and the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) were formulated,
resulting in the development of a set of policy documents, notably the Dar-es-Salaam Extraordinary
Summit Declaration and Plan of Action on Agriculture and Food Security, the Regional Agricultural
Investment Plan and the Regional Agricultural Policy (RAP). The latter provides the SADC short- and
long-term vision for the development of the agriculture sector.
Considering the importance of the agriculture sector in SADC Member States, and motivated by the
need to support the implementation of the aforementioned policies, a wide range of timely, reliable,
relevant and accurate data and statistics are required to help in formulating, managing, planning,
monitoring and evaluating the impact of those policies and investments. This increasing demand for
statistics, notably agricultural statistics, has prompted the need to minimize and/or eliminate error and
improve quality of data as well as statistical information released to better guide decision making and
increased efficiency of any policy, programme and project implemented.
Mobile Phone Based Data Collection using ODK and Kobo Toolbox has been recognized worldwide
as very useful and convenient data collection method substituting paper-based data collection method.
Due to the increase demand to Member States to generate accurate agricultural information and to
ensure timely reporting, a training curriculum has been developed on Mobile Data Collection using

How to scraping content from web for location-based mobile app.
This document discusses using web scraping to collect location-based data for mobile apps. It introduces web scraping and the Scrapy framework. In particular, when you work on your own, its critical to have things like billing, time tracking and project management as a natural and seamless part of your workflow.
This session aims to be a whistle stop tour of some useful open source tools and subscription solutions I have found to be well worth their costs - including how they can be used effectively together to allow you to make the most efficient use of your time designing and developing Drupal sites.
I work as a remote contractor & consultant and my clients are drupal shops and companies needing web sites and systems designed, built, themed and/or maintained. These tools and services work for me to help stay organized and on top of my workload and help me to manage my responsibilities across multiple clients and timezones effectively.
The material in this session is geared more towards individual freelancers although much of it will be relevant for larger drupal shops and teams too.
A few of the topics I intend to cover will include

Cloud Apps - Running Fully Distributed on Mobile Devices - Dominik Rüttimann
The move towards the cloud and towards low powered mobile devices has led to a decline of rich clients, i.e. most apps today are heavily dependent on their home server and thus a stable Internet connection. There are some approaches for local caching of data, however the concrete synchronization mechanism is often intransparent or difficult to control for users. Developers usually need to use different data structures on mobile devices and their cloud servers, thus leading to a multiplication of the code base involved. Meanwhile mobile chip architectures have caught up in performance such that the heavy reliance on the server has become more and more questionable. As an answer to this discrepancy, the Cloud Innovation Team of ATEGRA AG has been developing a fully distributed PaaS called Protogrid. It is based on CouchDB Servers located in the cloud, on premise and even running directly on mobile devices. The Protogrid development environment supports Rapid Application Development, such that a workflow application can be created and deployed offhandedly in a few minutes. Since all client logic is completely independent of the database schema, adaption to new requirements during operation is no issue. All Protogrid Apps can be deployed on various platforms without any additional effort and they are usable offline with no loss of functionality. In particular, this talk will cover experiences and earned knowledge during the implementation of Couchbase Lite and CouchDB replication on mobile clients as well as our innovative approach regarding the database schema in a NoSQL context.
