Home Maintenance Tips
FALL HOME MAINTENANCE TIP! (www.bobvila.com)
Clean the Gutters
After leaves have fallen, clean out the gutters and downspouts, flush them with water, inspect joints, and tighten
brackets if necessary. Clogged gutters are one of the major causes of ice dams. Replace old or damaged gutters
with new ones that have built-in leaf guards.
HALLOWEEN SAVING TIP (www.moneycrashers.com)
• Buy your pumpkins the day before Halloween. You won’t get as good of a selection, but they’ll be half-priced,
and you can buy more than one for decoration. Also, you won’t need to worry about rotting.
HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS (www.safekids.org)
Keep Costumes Both Creative and Safe
• Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors.
• Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct a child’s vision.
• Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.
• When selecting a costume, make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls.

HEALTHY HALLOWEEN TIP! (www.active.com)
Procrastinate
Purchase Halloween candy the day of trick or treat to avoid temptation. Buy less than what you think you
will need to avoid leftovers and purchase candies that you do not like, if you still have leftovers place
them out of sight. If you really have a hard time with temptation choose to pass out non-candy treats such
as bouncy balls, spider rings, pencils, erasers, bubbles or stickers.
