Helping Hand Home
Since 1893, Helping Hand Home has transformed
the lives of severely abused and neglected children by
combining nurturing care, professional treatment and
innovative services that heal. Our goal is to protect and
restore the lives of victimized children so they may reclaim
their futures and reach their full potential.
Your generosity makes it possible for the Home to
continue to help hundreds of children move from poverty,
homelessness and abuse to health, stability and ultimately
success.
Make Mother’s Day even more meaningful this year through
a gift to support the children of Helping Hand Home.
By investing in their futures, you are helping to provide these
young boys and girls with the therapeutic healing they need
to break the cycle of abuse.
Thank you in advance for your support and for allowing us
to give these children the bright future they deserve.

Volunteers
Volunteers are the backbone and
heart of Habitat whether they
wield a hammer, microphone,
price gun, or keyboard! Check
out some facts about the value of
volunteers at CCHFH.
In the U.S. last year, 62.8
million Americans volun-
teered 7.9 billion hours. The
average value of a volunteer
hour is $23.04, and the esti-
mated value of this volunteer
service is nearly $184 billion.
Volunteers have 27% higher
odds of finding a job after be-
ing out of work than non-vol-
unteers. This may be due to
several factors, including
developing new skills and ex-
panding personal networks.
CONTACT US
Volunteering strengthens
our community by bring-
ing together people to help
build a home with a part-
ner family. By volunteering
in your community, you
have a chance to give back.
Volunteers are almost twice
as likely to donate as non-
volunteers.Nearly80%ofvol-
unteers donated, compared to
40 percent of non-volunteers.
Overall, half of all Americans
donated at least $25 last year.

Gratent’s Go-To Guide for Social Media Success
In a time where social media is constantly growing, it is one of the most valuable tools for networking in today’s age.
Here are our tips for what social media sites to post on, what content to post, and when to post it.
Why should you use social media?
• To showcase your brand/company
• To build a business-client relationship
• To increase your exposure
• To enhance your company’s trustworthiness
• To create brand credibility
• To increase sales
• To access consumer feedback quickly
• To boost traffic and search engine ranking
• To cut market costs
What social media sites should you use?
Overall, it is shown that Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram are some of the top social media sites for networking for
your business. Here are some stats and tips for how to use each one:
Facebook Twitter
Instagram
LinkedIn
Why should you use Facebook? It has the highest number of visitors so your
company is more likely to be seen and it is a casual setting.
Estimated monthly visitors = 900,000,000
What to post on Facebook: Information about your company (but do not dis-
close everything on Facebook), include links to your business’s website, make
posts positive and interesting so that people are more likely to click on the
links, include images to increase follower engagement, engage with users by
responding to comments whether the comments are positive or negative, and
be available to respond to users or post when users are listening.
Best days and times to post on Facebook: Every day from 1 pm to 4 pm (peak
time is Wednesdays at 3 pm)
Worst days and times to post on Facebook: Weekends before 8 am and after 8
pm
How often to post on Facebook: 2 posts per day
Why should you use Twitter? It can be used as a strong customer service tool
to engage your audience and you can retweet information that is relevant to
your business.
Estimated monthly visitors = 310,000,000
What to post on Twitter: Questions, facts, and figures to engage your audience
and will get more retweets; a call to action: let your audience know what you
would like them to do next; use mentions (for example: @nytimes) to prompt
influencers to engage with you and respond; use hashtags (example: #small-
business) to reach out to a wider audience (do not use excessively and make
relevant to your business); retweet relevant content for your audience and
thank people who retweet you; shorten all of your URLs to bit.ly links (these
generate the most retweets); use correct punctuation and grammar
Best days and times to post on Twitter: Monday-Thursday, 9 am to 3 pm
Worst days and times to post on Twitter: Every day after 8 pm, Friday after 3
pm
How often to post on Twitter: 3 posts per day (not including retweets)
Why should you use LinkedIn? It is the best platform to establish and promote
your business to other business professionals and is a valuable recruiting tool.
Estimated monthly visitors = 255,000,000
What to post on LinkedIn: create a status update (make all posts up-to-date,
informative, relevant, and attention-grabbing); engage with your audience by
asking questions; add a link to your update to direct more people to your arti-
cle; edit description text to draw people’s attention to click (be concise and to
the point); know your target audience and tailor the post to them (use Linke-
dIn insights to see how well your previous posts have performed and measure
engagement through comments, shares, likes, and clicks); interact with com-
menters by engaging in the conversation and building relationships with your
audience
Best days and times to post on LinkedIn: Tuesday-Thursday, 12 pm and 5pm to
6pm
Worst days and times to post on LinkedIn: Mondays and Fridays, 10 am to 6
pm
How often to post on LinkedIn: 1 post per day
Why should you use Instagram? It is a visual platform to promote your busi-
ness in a more casual setting and it has a loyal audience following.
Estimated monthly visitors = 100,000,000
What to post on Instagram: well-edited photos (use photo-editing apps,
such as Camera+ or Snapseed); use similarly edited photos to give your feed
a consistent look and feel; use the rule of thirds (put subject of the photo in
only two-thirds of the screen to make it more visually appealing); use relevant
captions to grab the attention of your audience and include questions to drive
comments; use hashtags to reach out to a wider audience (do not use exces-
sively and make relevant to your business); reply to people who have liked and
commented your photos to drive two-way conversations
Best days and times to post on Instagram: Every day from 2 pm to 5 pm (peak
times are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 pm to 5 pm)
Worst days and times to post on Instagram: Every day at 9 am and 6 pm
How often to post on Instagram: 2 posts per day

Determined girl with a diverse set
of mass communication skills
By Hannah Cramer
Reporter
Raquel Gonzales is a passionate
student at Texas State University who
excels in every task she comes across.
Gonzales began
her education at
the University of
Washington and
transferred to
Texas State Uni-
versity as soon as
she realized she
was meant to be a
Bobcat. She loves
the people and atmosphere at Texas
State and finds herself a lot happier
since she transferred to San Marcos.
Gonzales worked for the University
News Service and was even asked to
work for the University Star. Her work
ethic prevented her from taking on the
extra responsibility, due to her heavy
school load. Gonzales’ writing experi-
ence started long before her time as a
Bobcat; she began writing for her high
school newspaper, The Peninsula Out-
look. Gonzales says she learned how to
take constructive criticism and improve
her writing skills immensely while
working for the Peninsula Outlook and
University News Service. Her published
articles can be found at www.txstate.
edu/news.
Not only can she take construc-
tive criticism, but she can also give it.
Gonzales has held leadership positions
throughout her academic career includ-
ing managing a staff at the Peninsula
Outlook and training new employees
at a retail job. She says her leadership
experience taught her to be a good role
model.
Gonzales has volunteered at mul-
tiple festivals, giving her real-world
experience. At the X Games Austin she
managed a booth and oversaw other
volunteers. Gonzales sold merchandise
and worked with artists three summers
in a row at the Creation Festival North-
west. She also has ample experience
with managing finances after working
as a tax preparer for Villegas y Villegas.
Gonzales says her strongest
asset is working well on a team with
all types of people. Her main goal is
to find an internship to further expand
her skills in public relations and web
design. Thanks to her skills in AP Style,
web coding, Microsoft Office, Photo-
shop and blogging, she would benefit
any company looking to improve their
public relations or web-content depart-
ments. Learn more about Gonzales
and see her web design talent for your-
self on her personal website: http://
raquelgonzales.com.

of the Americas enjoying a race.

school graduation in Tacoma, Washington.
Samples of work by Raquel Gonzales
This is a hobby website Gonzales cre-
ated to show her love for tattoos. This was
her first experience with Twitter Bootstrap
and her first experience with Adobe Photo-
shop, which she used to create the head-
er. She is very proud of this website.
This is the professional website Gon-
zales created to refer to future employers.
She created this website using Twitter
Bootstrap. She learned how to code and
design websites from her Web Design
class taken at Texas State University.

NewsletterVolume 1 Edition 1 April 5, 2015 Determined girl with a diverse set of mass communication skills By Hannah Cramer Reporter Raquel Gonzales is a passionate student at Texas State University who excels in every task she comes across. Gonzales began her education at the University of Washington and transferred to Texas State Uni- versity as soon as she realized she was meant to be a Bobcat. She loves the people and atmosphere at Texas State and finds herself a lot happier since she transferred to San Marcos. Gonzales worked for the University News Service and was even asked to work for the University Star. Her work ethic prevented her from taking on the extra responsibility, due to her heavy school load. Gonzales’ writing experi- ence started long before her time as a Bobcat; she began writing for her high school newspaper, The Peninsula Out- look. Gonzales says she learned how to take constructive criticism and improve her writing skills immensely while working for the Peninsula Outlook and University News Service. Her published articles can be found at www.txstate. edu/news. Not only can she take construc- tive criticism, but she can also give it. Gonzales has held leadership positions throughout her academic career includ- ing managing a staff at the Peninsula Outlook and training new employees at a retail job. She says her leadership experience taught her to be a good role model. Gonzales has volunteered at mul- tiple festivals, giving her real-world experience. At the X Games Austin she managed a booth and oversaw other volunteers. Gonzales sold merchandise and worked with artists three summers in a row at the Creation Festival North- west. She also has ample experience with managing finances after working as a tax preparer for Villegas y Villegas. Gonzales says her strongest asset is working well on a team with all types of people. Her main goal is to find an internship to further expand her skills in public relations and web design. Thanks to her skills in AP Style, web coding, Microsoft Office, Photo- shop and blogging, she would benefit any company looking to improve their public relations or web-content depart- ments. Learn more about Gonzales and see her web design talent for your- self on her personal website: http:// raquelgonzales.com. Upper picture: Gonzales at the Circuit of the Americas enjoying a race. Lower picture: Gonzales at her high school graduation in Tacoma, Washington. Samples of work by Raquel Gonzales This is a hobby website Gonzales cre- ated to show her love for tattoos. This was her first experience with Twitter Bootstrap and her first experience with Adobe Photo- shop, which she used to create the head- er. She is very proud of this website. This is the professional website Gon- zales created to refer to future employers. She created this website using Twitter Bootstrap. She learned how to code and design websites from her Web Design class taken at Texas State University. All photos by Raquel Gonzales
