Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

This is the true enterprise cloud you’ve heard mentioned. We don’t focus on micro-instances, or VMs with time-sliced fractional CPU allocations. We focus on providing what businesses need to run real production workloads. Workloads that may have to scale up, as well as out. Workloads that may require the reliability of a solid traditional hardware infrastructure in addition to the “plan to fail” approach of cloud. Workloads that need low-latency access to storage and networks. And we provide businesses with simple pricing and predictable costs, instead of an arcane system that penalizes you for running the high performance production applications you depend on.
Oracle’s Virtual Cloud Network gives you the complete set of network services you need in the cloud with the same network flexibility you have today on-prem.

I mentioned digital transformation a moment ago. Part of the digital transformation puzzle are ever-increasing user expectations, sometimes called the consumerization of IT. Your users are comparing their experience with Netflix, Twitter and Facebook.
While IT is often focused on the health and performance of application components, if you ignore the edge, you’re ignore half of the user experience equation.
Let’s define what the edge and cloud edge service actually are.
Based on the sessions you’re attending and experience with cloud, you’re probably familiar with core cloud compute and storage services, but network, security & identity and analytics, and many more, are services running in the core.
Edge services may be less familiar, but include DNS, one of the foundational protocols of the internet -- nothing resolves without it. Also content, security, load balancing and networking, as well as telemetry and analytics services.
While the first generation of the cloud focused almost exclusively on core services, the next generation cloud isn’t complete without both edge and core services. In a few minutes I’m going to offer some examples that will further drive home the value of the edge with a focus on the complete roundtrip.
Ravello enables enterprises to run their data center based VMware or KVM based apps ‘as is' on public cloud.
This moves the data center based application to the cloud without having to rearchitect the application for cloud, and uses the same VMs, networking and storages as in the data center.
Increases business agility through on-demand access to scalable infrastructure.
Infrastructure cost savings of 40 - 60% compared to running virtualized on premises.
The grey shaded area designates the functions that Oracle Manages for the customers, including an integrated Registry and image storage and the Container Engine / Managed Kubernetes.
Oracle will manage the etcd and Master nodes of the Kubernetes instance, in a High Availability setup for the customer. Upgrades to new versions of Kubernetes will also be supported in the Container Engine dashboard.
The customer will manage the Clusters/Worker Nodes that are setup by the Managed Service for that instance, in their own OCI account/tenancy, shaded in blue above.
Note: The customer will need to bring their own OCI account to create clusters for the managed Kubernetes cloud service and pay for any infrastructure usage incurred with their clusters of worker nodes.
Let’s take a moment to look at three of the most common enterprise cloud use cases:
Migrate existing Oracle Applications to the cloud
Move existing Oracle Database Applications in to the cloud
Build and deploy performance intensive applications in the cloud
A few real-life applications of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
Support for traditional and modern applications, scale-up and scale-out
