Editor's Notes

  1. Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure gives you the best of on-premises and cloud. You get the raw performance and customization of an on-prem solution, with all of the added benefits that come with a cloud solution. The best performance in the market, with fast resource provisioning Versatility: only pay for what you use and use for either traditional or modern apps Enterprise governance enables control and agility in complex organizations Integration provides optimal Oracle Application and Database performance and experience This is why our infrastructure is so well suited for supporting mission critical enterprise apps such as your Oracle apps.
  2. Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure architecture offers a solid foundation for your existing enterprise applications, and is flexible enough to support your cloud-native apps From the bottom up, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure offers: Each region has multiple Availability Domains to give you a great foundation for high availability and disaster protection A high performance Physical Network to provide the lowest latency and no resource contention A layer 3 Virtual Network, which helps optimize IO performance and enables unique services like bare metal servers on-demand Integrated compute, storage, database, networking, and platform services to migrate existing apps without change, and build optimal new apps Connectivity and Edge services to connect different Oracle regions and your data center, as well as optimize end user experience Finally, simplified, yet powerful abilities to segment, secure, and offer resources in complex organizations
  3. High performance servers, storage and database support millions of IOPS, I/O and transactions, and scale up and down based on your need. This is the true enterprise cloud you’ve heard mentioned. We don’t focus on micro-instances, or VMs with time-sliced fractional CPU allocations. We focus on providing what businesses need to run real production workloads. Workloads that may have to scale up, as well as out. Workloads that may require the reliability of a solid traditional hardware infrastructure in addition to the “plan to fail” approach of cloud. Workloads that need low-latency access to storage and networks. And we provide businesses with simple pricing and predictable costs, instead of an arcane system that penalizes you for running the high performance production applications you depend on.
  4. Oracle’s Virtual Cloud Network gives you the complete set of network services you need in the cloud with the same network flexibility you have today on-prem. You can build an isolated virtual network with granular controls, including subnets and security lists, to name a few We provide secure and dedicated connectivity from your data center to the cloud with multiple providers like Equinix and Megaport You can provide end customers high performance and predictable access to your applications with services like provisioned bandwidth load balancing All networking services are API-driven and programmable for more automated management and application control
  5. Oracle offers a broad variety of compute solutions: from small and virtualized to very large and dedicated, from web servers to high performance application servers, with either network block storage or local NVMe storage. These options enable you to build a range of applications on the same high performance network, from traditional Enterprise to modern scale out, from unpredictable to steady state. VM’s and Bare Metal compute with predictable IOPS block storage for general purpose needs Dense I/O VM’s with local NVMe storage provide a range of compute and capacities with high IOPS Bare Metal GPUs with 2 P100 GPUs, 28 cores, and predictable IOPS block storage. Bare Metal compute with 52 cores, high memory, and optional local NVMe SSDs, provisioned in under 5 minutes. All compute options are available as either pay as you go or by subscription. Compute images are transferable between different shapes, for even more versatility.
  6. Oracle Cloud provides optimized storage for nearly any use case: Local NVMe SSD provides the fastest performance for transactional database and HPC use cases File storage offers a managed file storage service that scales from just kilobytes of data to exabytes, making it ideal for enterprise applications, Big Data, analytics, scale-out applications and container-based applications. Block storage is the most flexible for application development and deployment, and classic tiered applications Object storage provides great economics for Backup and Archive, as well as Big Data data lakes Whether your applications prefer a tiered storage strategy with snapshots, backups, and replication, or more of a scale-out model, Oracle offers incredible storage price performance
  7. Oracle offers all the flexibility of hosting your database on-premises, with the benefits of powerful infrastructure options and simplified administration, all available by the hour. Depending on your database needs, Oracle supports all of your enterprise applications with the highest availability and massive scalability. Basic Oracle database with up to 52 OCPUs. This gives you the full performance and scale of todays high CPU, high memory, and amazing NVMe SSDs You can leverage Oracle RAC to provide local high availability and reduce your SLA to seconds Finally, you can use Exadata to give you the highest performance and availability in the cloud
  8. I mentioned digital transformation a moment ago. Part of the digital transformation puzzle are ever-increasing user expectations, sometimes called the consumerization of IT. Your users are comparing their experience with Netflix, Twitter and Facebook. While IT is often focused on the health and performance of application components, if you ignore the edge, you’re ignore half of the user experience equation. Let’s define what the edge and cloud edge service actually are. Based on the sessions you’re attending and experience with cloud, you’re probably familiar with core cloud compute and storage services, but network, security & identity and analytics, and many more, are services running in the core. Edge services may be less familiar, but include DNS, one of the foundational protocols of the internet -- nothing resolves without it. Also content, security, load balancing and networking, as well as telemetry and analytics services. While the first generation of the cloud focused almost exclusively on core services, the next generation cloud isn’t complete without both edge and core services. In a few minutes I’m going to offer some examples that will further drive home the value of the edge with a focus on the complete roundtrip.
  9. Ravello enables enterprises to run their data center based VMware or KVM based apps ‘as is' on public cloud. This moves the data center based application to the cloud without having to rearchitect the application for cloud, and uses the same VMs, networking and storages as in the data center. Increases business agility through on-demand access to scalable infrastructure. Infrastructure cost savings of 40 - 60% compared to running virtualized on premises.
  10. The grey shaded area designates the functions that Oracle Manages for the customers, including an integrated Registry and image storage and the Container Engine / Managed Kubernetes. Oracle will manage the etcd and Master nodes of the Kubernetes instance, in a High Availability setup for the customer. Upgrades to new versions of Kubernetes will also be supported in the Container Engine dashboard. The customer will manage the Clusters/Worker Nodes that are setup by the Managed Service for that instance, in their own OCI account/tenancy, shaded in blue above. Note: The customer will need to bring their own OCI account to create clusters for the managed Kubernetes cloud service and pay for any infrastructure usage incurred with their clusters of worker nodes.
  11. Let’s take a moment to look at three of the most common enterprise cloud use cases: Migrate existing Oracle Applications to the cloud Move existing Oracle Database Applications in to the cloud Build and deploy performance intensive applications in the cloud A few real-life applications of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Support for traditional and modern applications, scale-up and scale-out Support for different parts of the application: web front ends, transactional databases, NoSQL or KV stores, content, logs, streams Support for high IOPS or high throughput or retention Support for all data sets from very active data to “cold data” Let’s walk through a few customer examples.
  12. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is the only true enterprise cloud for three reasons: Our unique architecture and strategy Our focus on Oracle enterprise workloads Our ability to match your economic needs
  13. There are three clear things to do next: Let’s dive more into your specific use cases, and help you decide where to start first You can take a free test drive of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure – independently or with a guide We can give you a better sense of specific solutions and benefits for your environment with a pre-assessment
