This document discusses optimizing future ocean cleanup efforts. It analyzes data from a Booz Allen Hamilton app from 2015-present on ocean garbage collected. Key findings include plastic being the most common item, and clustering cleanup sites into land, watercraft, and underwater types. Maps show population density and cleanup locations correlate. Over 1300 entangled animals were found dead, with 96.97% from 25 states. Twitter data shows public awareness of the issue. Recommendations include providing pocket ashtrays and disposal sites to address cigarette butts being a major contaminant, using mesh bags and diving knives to aid underwater cleanup, and targeting regions like the West and Midwest to increase participation.
