• Definition : The Securities Contracts
(Regulation) Act, 1956 defines a stock
exchange as "an association, organization or
body of individuals, whether incorporate or
not, established for the purpose of assisting,
regulating and controlling the business in
buying, selling and dealing in securities“

3. NSE
• NSE was incorporated in 1992 as a tax paying
company. It was recognised as a stock exchange by
SEBI in April 1993 and commenced operations in
1994 with the launch of the wholesale debt market.
• The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is the leading
stock exchange in India and the fourth largest in the
world by equity trading volume in 2015, according to
World Federation of Exchanges (WFE).
