• N.R. Narayana Murthy, born on August 20, 1946, in Mysore, Karnataka, is a
prominent Indian businessman and software engineer, best known as the co-
founder of Infosys, a leading multinational corporation specializing in business
consulting, technology, engineering, and outsourcing services

• Murthy earned his degree in
Electrical Engineering from the
National Institute of Engineering,
University of Mysore, in 1967,
followed by a Master’s degree
from the Indian Institute of
Technology, Kanpur, in 1969.

H I G H L I G H T S :
• Early Career: He began his
professional journey as a Chief
Systems Programmer at the Indian
Institute of Management
Ahmedabad, where he developed
a BASIC interpreter for Electronics
Corporation of India Limited (ECIL).
• Founding Infosys: In 1981, Murthy co-
founded Infosys with six other engineers,
starting with an initial capital of ₹10,000,
which was invested by his wife, Sudha
Murthy. Under his leadership as CEO from
1981 to 2002, and later as Chairman until
2011, Infosys grew into a global
enterprise, becoming the first Indian
company to be listed on NASDAQ.

• Philanthropy and Contributions: In
1996, Murthy established the
Infosys Foundation, a not-for-
profit organization aimed at
community development. He has
been instrumental in promoting
education, healthcare, and social
initiatives across India.

R E C O G N I T I O N S :
• Murthy's contributions have been
acknowledged globally. He has
received several prestigious awards,
including the Padma Shri in 2000
and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008
from the Government of India. He
has also been listed among the 12
greatest entrepreneurs of our time
by Fortune magazine and described
as the "Father of the Indian IT
sector" by Time magazine.
