Thanksgiving celebrations originated from European harvest festivals. While the origins are similar, Americans celebrate the first Thanksgiving in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621, while Canadians celebrate the first Thanksgiving in 1578 in Frobisher Bay, Canada led by Martin Frobisher. Both countries now celebrate Thanksgiving, but on different dates - the second Monday of October in Canada and the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. Traditional Thanksgiving meals include turkey, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce.
