My name is Colin Mayne, and I was the Managing Director of Giesecke & Devrient India
from 1 January 2008 until 30 September 2014.
During that time we came under increasing pressure from my German head office in
Munich to formalize our purchasing policies and practices. In 2012 I hired an Indian national
as Financial Director, and at his recommendation, I agreed to hire Ms Neelu Sharma as the
Purchasing Manager of the company in 2013, reporting to me.
I can honestly recommend Ms Sharma's dedication and hard work - she immediately went
about the difficult task of formalizing purchasing policies and practices, and we saw early
results, both in terms of hard savings and far better documented buying decisions. Neelu
Sharma has the character and strength of purpose to see this difficult job through in trying
circumstances. In a company which had run for over ten years without a Head of
Purchasing, her interventions were not always popular, but they always served the best
interests of the company and the shareholders.
