Areas covered by NRLDC
• Northern Regional Load Despatch Center (NRLDC) : Delhi, Haryana,
Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Rajasthan,
Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand
 Vision:
 To be a global institution of excellence for reliable & resilient power systems, fostering
efficient electricity markets, promoting economy and sustainability.
 Mission:
 Ensure Integrated Operation of the Indian Power System to facilitate transfer of electric power
within and across the regions and trans-national exchange of power with Reliability, Economy
and Sustainability.
 Facilitate competitive and efficient wholesale electricity markets and administer settlement
systems.
 Promote innovation and adoption of latest technology with cyber security.

POSOCO
What is POSOCO ???
Answer
 Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) is a CPSE
(Central Public Sector Enterprise)under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Power,
Government of India. It is responsible to monitor and ensure round the clock
integrated operation of Indian Power System in a reliable, efficient and secure
manner thus serving a mission critical activity. It consists of 5 Regional Load
Despatch Centers (RLDCs) and the National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC).
 The load despatch functions, earlier handled by PGCIL, have been entrusted to
POSOCO.
Functions of NRLDC
 NRLDC is the apex body to ensure integrated operation of the power system
in the Northern Region.
 The main responsibilities of NRLDC are:
 To ensure the integrated operation of the power system in the Northern
Region.
 Monitoring of system parameters and system security.
 Daily scheduling and operational planning.
Also,
 Facilitating bilateral and inter-regional exchanges of power.
 Analysis of tripping/disturbances and facilitating immediate remedial
measures.
 System studies, planning and contingency analysis.
 Augmentation of telemetry, computing and communication facilities.
 Computation of energy dispatch and drawl values using SEMs.
Challenges Faced By NRLDC
 Challenges Faced before the formation of National and Regional Load
Despatch Centers:
 LowHigh Frequency problems: Frequency explurges to highlow values
 LowHigh Voltage Operation: Critically low voltages at load centers;
Substantially high voltages at far ends
 System Blackouts: Separation of SystemsLoss of load
 Economic InstabilityIncreased Electrical losses: Unreliableinefficient
operation of equipment
Future Prospects
 To install biggest wind farms in Ladakh.
 To install hydro plants in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
 To make power available at the places where yet power is not delivered.
 To give power 24*7.
 To install solar plants in Rajasthan and in rooftops of homes (specially in
Rajasthan).
