More people are identifying outside the binary, feeling their gender does not fit into a male or female box. For these folks, as well as for the professionals supporting them, questions surrounding transition are often left unanswered.
What does a non-standard transition route look like?
Is this quickly becoming the norm?
Does it even exist?
This workshop explores the myriad options people have, covering social, medical, and legal transition needs. It includes busting myths and clarifying misconceptions, outlining alternatives and loopholes, and developing strategies for empowering you and your clients in their transgender journey.

I presented this 90 minute workshop at the Gender Odyssey Professional Conference, held in Seattle, August 2015. The audience was primarily medical and service providers of trans health. For more info, visit http://www.genderdiversity.org/gopro/
The document describes an intimacy workshop series that will cover topics like the 7 levels of intimacy and how intimacy starts from within as we reveal our authentic selves, rather than through just physical intimacy. The workshops encourage participants to balance their needs for togetherness and individuality in relationships through self-validation and differentiation in order to have healthy intimacy.

This document provides guidelines for using People First Language when referring to individuals with disabilities. It emphasizes referring to the person first rather than the disability, such as "person with a disability" rather than "disabled person." The guide offers preferred and avoided terms across a range of disabilities from autism to stroke. It explains that People First Language focuses on abilities and treats disabilities respectfully without defining the individual. The purpose is to reduce stigma and foster inclusion of people with disabilities.
The document discusses self-image and the factors that influence it. Several surveys are presented that explore peoples' perceptions of themselves and how others view them. The majority of people believe in themselves and their abilities, though some are influenced more than others by peers and media. Improving self-image involves focusing on personal strengths and changing negative thoughts.

With the recent political upheaval, it's become more important than ever for our alternative sexuality communities to insist upon inclusion and diversity for people of all races, sizes, genders, abilities and sexual and relationship orientations. Here's how we can stand together and prove that love trumps hate. Opening keynote for Poly Living Philadelphia 2017.
Because today every time we choose an algorithm, a dataset, a framework, even a plugin, our decision may have tremendous consequences on people near and far around us.
As we, in the tech industry, slowly come to realise the power we wield, we urgently need to train our brains into an ethical decision-making framework.
How can we make sure our choices won't harm others?
Daniel Levinson published a book in 1978 presenting a theory of adult development consisting of distinct life stages. Based on interviews with 40 men aged 35-45, Levinson proposed that adults have images of the future ("dreams") that motivate them, with men focused on careers and women having a "split dream" of both work and family. These dreams provide excitement and motivation as adults progress through stages of exploring possibilities in early adulthood, committing to careers and relationships in the entering adult world phase, re-evaluating choices in the age thirty transition, and focusing on work, family and community in settling down phase. Levinson's theory was criticized for primarily focusing on men's experiences and overlooking societal influences and diverse
The document discusses modern day slavery, highlighting that someone becomes a slave every 30 seconds. 30 million people worldwide are enslaved today, more than the population of Texas. Slavery exists in many forms, including trafficking, forced labor and child marriage. The average age of a modern slave is 12 years old. Freedom Challenge aims to prevent slavery, develop long-term solutions, rescue victims, and help restore their lives. The movement calls on all women to participate in a challenge to raise awareness and funds to combat injustice and set women and children on a pathway to freedom.
This document discusses the concept of swarming intelligence and how principles from swarm behavior in social insects can be applied to human organizations and problem solving. Some key points:
- Swarm intelligence emerges from the collective behavior of social insects like ants and bees and is characterized by flexibility, robustness, and self-organization without centralized control.
- Research into social insects can provide models to explain their effective swarm behaviors and these models can then inspire practical experiments to solve human problems. Some applications of swarm principles include open source software development and large-scale team formation events.
- For human swarms to be effective, individuals need personal autonomy while also being personally accountable. Principles like feedback, improvisation, mimicking

The (non)sense of gender-free in conversational AI - Women in voice Netherlan...Marion Mulder
(Why) should technology have a gender?
Why are all voice devices female? Is that actually a bad thing? And what does this do to/for how we perceive women and gender equality? Is this making an improving for all of us or should we be concerned about something?
On 20 January I gave a presentation at the Women in Voice Netherlands (online) meetup about #genderfreetech, how I see it and what I've learned from both being in tech and diversity & inclusion for years as well as insights I got from ready a series of really good books on this subject.
Here you find my presentation addressing the following topics:
* What do I mean by Gender-Free; I’ll take you along on my journey of exploration
* Does everything need to be gender-neutral? Spoiler alert: Hell NO!
* That ‘thing’ about gender; what’s going on? why is that? Symptoms & underlying causes. In short: Bias and by Binary Thinking
* Opportunities & Possible Solutions
Want to know more about it, or want to create positive change? Feel free to contact me. I'd be happy to present, give workshops or work with you on co-creating great technology solutions that benefit everyone.

The document discusses social injustices and advocacies. It prompts students to identify social injustices in their community and come up with a battle cry and advocacies to stop them. Students are asked how their feelings could lead to supporting advocacies and what developments they see in their community from looking at advocacies. It also asks how students can show support for an advocacy in their everyday lives and has students analyze a song related to community participation and development.
As the guest speaker at a DevFaction Meetup Group, I presented this talk on the power of visual storytelling. I also shared strategies for creating content that is meaningful and culturally relevant through embracing ancient archetypal patterns and universal human emotions. Inspired by the work of Joseph Campbell and Carl Jung.
The document discusses the sociological perspectives of the social self. It describes how George Herbert Mead and Charles Cooley viewed the self as developed through social interactions and based on how people think others see them. Interpersonal relationships are important for physical and emotional well-being. Developing skills like self-awareness, communication, and empathy can help people succeed in their careers and relationships by improving how they interact with others. Barriers like situational factors, personal issues, and sociocultural differences can challenge interpersonal relationships but can be addressed.
This document discusses various taboos from different cultures and time periods. It begins by defining taboo and exploring universal taboos such as incest, murder and cannibalism. It then examines changing taboos from the past like women wearing pants or driving cars to more modern taboos around discussing politics or weight. The document suggests that while taboos often aim to protect society, they can also be limiting and constricting at times. It encourages breaking boundaries and rules in a constructive way to foster creativity and new possibilities. In the end, the document explores what we can learn from examining taboos.

The video discusses several cases of superfetation, where twins are born with different biological fathers. It notes that the first case involved a woman having relations with her husband and lover during her fertile period, resulting in twins with different fathers. The video estimates there have been around 7 such reported cases worldwide. It also discusses a 2009 US case where twins were discovered to have different skin colors and fathers, though the husband decided to keep one child despite the evidence.
DANTE'S INFERNO | Circle 8 Bolgia 9: Sowers of Dischordjotunheimm
The document summarizes Dante's description of the ninth bolgia or ditch of hell in Canto XXVIII of the Inferno. It contains sowers of discord who are hacked and mutilated by devils based on their sins of sowing religious, political, or familial discord on Earth. Their wounds heal before they are forced to drag themselves back to be hacked again, enduring eternal punishment in fitting contradiction to their sins. Key figures like Mahomet, Curio, and Bertrand de Born are described and their specific mutilations mentioned.
This document provides guidance on developing emotional intelligence and managing emotions. It discusses key aspects of emotional intelligence including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. Specific techniques are presented for identifying emotions, regulating emotional state, recognizing emotions in others, and using emotions to positively influence interactions and outcomes. The document emphasizes that all emotions can be constructive if harnessed properly and provides examples of how to evoke emotions like anger, fear, and sadness in a way that is motivational.
The document discusses Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, which posits that intelligence is comprised of different specific abilities rather than a single general ability. It describes eight types of intelligence: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist. People with different intelligences may be drawn to different careers. The document also notes that both heredity and environment contribute to shaping a person's intelligence through the genes inherited from parents and life experiences.
The document discusses the characteristics, limitations, strengths, and celebrities associated with what it calls a "white personality." It lists peacefulness, tolerance, kindness, laziness, insecurity, self-doubt, aimlessness, timidity, and impressibility as characteristics. It notes listening, acceptance, kindness, patience, and perspective as attraction factors, and indecisiveness, conflict avoidance, and inexpressiveness as unattraction factors. The document also provides tips on how to get along with someone with a white personality.

Here is a summary of Pneumothorax:
Pneumothorax, also known as a collapsed lung, is a condition that occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall. This air buildup puts pressure on the lung, preventing it from expanding fully when you breathe. A pneumothorax can cause a complete or partial collapse of the lung.

Hypotension, or low blood pressure, is when the pressure of blood circulating in the body is lower than normal or expected. It's only a problem if it negatively impacts the body and causes symptoms. Normal blood pressure is usually between 90/60 mmHg and 120/80 mmHg, but pressures below 90/60 are generally considered hypotensive.
