Now that we know the stages of critical thinking and have a better understanding of how to improve, we need to think about how we will measure our progress. What types of standards will we need to hold our thinking to in order to ensure we are thinking critically? What types of questions can we ask ourselves to double check our thinking? Paul & Elder (2012) give us the basic, universal standards and as a reminder, I have them listed here:

Last week, we looked at the influence that outside sources like family, friends, and the media have on our ability to think critically. We've also spent the last week reviewing how we should evaluate our evidence sources to ensure they are reliable and credible. This week, we will look specifically at the media and how what they deliver may not be as objective and bias free as you would hope.
Paul & Elder (2012) give us a list of myths that you may or may not believe about various forms of media. Those myths include:
· that most news stories are produced through independent investigative journalism
· that news writers simply report facts in their stories and do not come to conclusions about them
· that fact and opinion are clearly separated in constructing the news
· that there is an objective reality (the actual "news") that is simply "reported" or described by the news media of the world (our news media writers reporting on this objectively; the media of foreign enemies systematically slanting and distorting it)
· that what is unusual (novel, odd, bizarre) is news; what is usual is not (Paul & Elder, 2012)

Services (2011) urge providers
to improve the overall quality of
health care by making it more
patient centered. Patient-centered
care (or person-centered care) refers
to the therapeutic relationship
between health care providers and
recipients of health care services,
with emphasis on meeting the
needs of individual patients. Al -
though the term has been used
widely in recent years, it remains a
poorly defined and conceptualized
phenomenon (Hobbs, 2009).
Patient-centered care is believed
to be holistic nursing care. It pro-
vides a mechanism for nurses to
engage patients as active partici-
pants in every aspect of their health
(Scott, 2010). Patient shadowing
and care flow mapping were used to
create a sense of empathy and
urgency among clinicians by clarify-
ing the patient and family experi-
ence. These two approaches, which
were meant to promote patient-cen-
tered care, can improve patient sat-
isfaction scores without increasing
costs (DiGioia, Lorenz, Greenhouse,
Bertoty, & Rocks, 2010). A better
under standing of attributes of
patient-centered care and areas for
improvement is needed in order to
develop nursing policies that in -
crease the use of this model in health
care settings.

After the Civil War, the United States had to recover from war, handle western expansion, and grapple with very new economic forms. However, its greatest issues would revolve around the legacies of slavery and increasing diversity in the decades after the Civil War. In the South, former slaves now had freedom and new opportunities but, despite the Reconstruction period, faced old prejudices and rapidly forming new barriers. Immigrants from Europe and Asia came in large numbers but then faced political and social restrictions. Women continued to seek rights. Yet, on the whole, America became increasingly diverse by the 1920s. Consider developments, policies, and laws in that period from 1865 to the 1920s. Examine the statement below and drawing from provided sources, present a paper with specific examples and arguments to demonstrate the validity of your position.

Political policies and movements in the period from 1865 to the 1920s generally promoted diversity and “the melting pot” despite the strong prejudices of a few. (or you can take the position that they did not). Use specific examples of policies or movements from different decades to support your position.

As of February 1, 2020 and February 2, 2019, there were no revolving credit loans outstanding under the credit agreements, and there were no borrowings under the
agreements during 2019 and 2018. In addition, there were no standby letters of credit outstanding at February 1, 2020 and February 2, 2019. Revolving loans under the credit
agreement bear interest based on various published rates.
The Company's credit agreement, which is an obligation of a 100%-owned subsidiary of Macy’s, Inc. (“Parent”), is not secured. However, Parent has fully and
unconditionally guaranteed this obligation. The credit agreement requires the Company to maintain a specified interest coverage ratio for the latest four quarters of no less
than 3.25 and a specified leverage ratio as of and for the latest four quarters of no more than 3.75. The Company’s interest coverage ratio for 2019 was 12.68 and its leverage
ratio at February 1, 2020 was 1.78, in each case as calculated in accordance with the credit agreement. The interest coverage ratio is defined as EBITDA divided by net interest
expense and the leverage ratio is defined as debt divided by EBITDA. For purposes of these calculations EBITDA is calculated as net income plus interest expense, taxes,
depreciation, amortization, non-cash impairment of goodwill, intangibles and real estate, settlement charges, non-recurring cash charges not to exceed in the aggregate $200
million and extraordinary losses less interest income and non-recurring or extraordinary gains. Net interest is adjusted to exclude the premium on early retirement of debt.
A breach of a restrictive covenant in the Company’s credit agreement or the inability of the Company to maintain the financial ratios described above could result in an
event of default under the credit agreement. In addition, an event of default would occur under the credit agreement if any indebtedness of the Company in excess of an
aggregate principal amount of $150 million becomes due prior to its stated maturity or the holders of such indebtedness become able to cause it to become due prior to its
stated maturity. Upon the occurrence of an event of default, the lenders could, subject to the terms and conditions of the credit agreement, elect to declare the outstanding
principal, together with accrued interest, to be immediately due and payable. Moreover, most of the Company’s senior notes and debentures contain cross-default provisions
based on the non-payment at maturity, or other default after an applicable grace period, of any other debt, the unpaid principal amount of which is not less than $100 million
that could be triggered by an event of default under the credit agreement. In such an event, the Company’s senior notes and debentures that contain cross-default provisions
would also be subject to acceleration.

Most research encourages the use of a scientific approach when working with clients to formulate a treatment plan. Now that we know the stages of critical thinking and have a better understanding of how to improve, we need to think about how we will measure our progress. What types of standards will we need to hold our thinking to in order to ensure we are thinking critically? What types of questions can we ask ourselves to double check our thinking? Paul & Elder (2012) give us the basic, universal standards and as a reminder, I have them listed here:

Last week, we looked at the influence that outside sources like family, friends, and the media have on our ability to think critically. We've also spent the last week reviewing how we should evaluate our evidence sources to ensure they are reliable and credible. This week, we will look specifically at the media and how what they deliver may not be as objective and bias free as you would hope.
Paul & Elder (2012) give us a list of myths that you may or may not believe about various forms of media. Those myths include:
· that most news stories are produced through independent investigative journalism
· that news writers simply report facts in their stories and do not come to conclusions about them
· that fact and opinion are clearly separated in constructing the news
· that there is an objective reality (the actual "news") that is simply "reported" or described by the news media of the world (our news media writers reporting on this objectively; the media of foreign enemies systematically slanting and distorting it)
· that what is unusual (novel, odd, bizarre) is news; what is usual is not (Paul & Elder, 2012)

to improve the overall quality of
health care by making it more
patient centered. Patient-centered
care (or person-centered care) refers
to the therapeutic relationship
between health care providers and
recipients of health care services,
with emphasis on meeting the
needs of individual patients. Al -
though the term has been used
widely in recent years, it remains a
poorly defined and conceptualized
phenomenon (Hobbs, 2009).
Patient-centered care is believed
to be holistic nursing care. It pro-
vides a mechanism for nurses to
engage patients as active partici-
pants in every aspect of their health
(Scott, 2010). Patient shadowing
and care flow mapping were used to
create a sense of empathy and
urgency among clinicians by clarify-
ing the patient and family experi-
ence. These two approaches, which
were meant to promote patient-cen-
tered care, can improve patient sat-
isfaction scores without increasing
costs (DiGioia, Lorenz, Greenhouse,
Bertoty, & Rocks, 2010). A better
under standing of attributes of
patient-centered care and areas for
improvement is needed in order to
develop nursing policies that in -
crease the use of this model in health
care settings.

After the Civil War, the United States had to recover from war, handle western expansion, and grapple with very new economic forms. However, its greatest issues would revolve around the legacies of slavery and increasing diversity in the decades after the Civil War. In the South, former slaves now had freedom and new opportunities but, despite the Reconstruction period, faced old prejudices and rapidly forming new barriers. Immigrants from Europe and Asia came in large numbers but then faced political and social restrictions. Women continued to seek rights. Yet, on the whole, America became increasingly diverse by the 1920s. Consider developments, policies, and laws in that period from 1865 to the 1920s. Examine the statement below and drawing from provided sources, present a paper with specific examples and arguments to demonstrate the validity of your position.

Political policies and movements in the period from 1865 to the 1920s generally promoted diversity and “the melting pot” despite the strong prejudices of a few. (or you can take the position that they did not). Use specific examples of policies or movements from different decades to support your position.

million and extraordinary losses less interest income and non-recurring or extraordinary gains. Net interest is adjusted to exclude the premium on early retirement of debt.
A breach of a restrictive covenant in the Company’s credit agreement or the inability of the Company to maintain the financial ratios described above could result in an
event of default under the credit agreement. In addition, an event of default would occur under the credit agreement if any indebtedness of the Company in excess of an
aggregate principal amount of $150 million becomes due prior to its stated maturity or the holders of such indebtedness become able to cause it to become due prior to its
stated maturity. Upon the occurrence of an event of default, the lenders could, subject to the terms and conditions of the credit agreement, elect to declare the outstanding
principal, together with accrued interest, to be immediately due and payable. Moreover, most of the Company’s senior notes and debentures contain cross-default provisions
based on the non-payment at maturity, or other default after an applicable grace period, of any other debt, the unpaid principal amount of which is not less than $100 million
that could be triggered by an event of default under the credit agreement. In such an event, the Company’s senior notes and debentures that contain cross-default provisions
would also be subject to acceleration.

Competent social workers have many types of skills to complement a wide variety of theoretical knowledge. This skill set and knowledge base is often informed by research. Whether research is quantitative, qualitative, or a mixture of both, the information that well-formed studies yield contribute to the knowledge base of the social work profession as a whole.

In the social work profession, our goal is to help others. Many times this is done by teaching others how to help themselves. Most research encourages the use of a scientific approach when working with clients to formulate a treatment plan. This includes using the scientific method to create a measurable question for which evidence can be used to arrive at a solution (Yegidis, Weinbach, & Myers, 2018). Likewise, Gossett and Weinman (2007) emphasize the importance of using evidence when developing a course of action or treatment plan with clients. Purpose:
In this project, you will assess how two start up companies have come under scrutiny for their actions in operating in today's business environment. How these companies are operating are pushing the limits or have exceeded the limits of what is considered ethical and legal. In completing this project you will have the opportunity to research the two companies, identify stakeholders influenced by the organization's decisions and develop and evaluate alternatives, recommend solutions to ensure appropriate business practices and accountability occur
Outcomes met by completing this project:
1. identify ethical issues that arise in domestic and global business environments using an understanding of ethical concepts and of legal and business principles
2. develop and evaluate alternatives to, and recommend solutions for, ethical dilemmas, taking into account ethical and legal requirements and the essential mission of the business enterprise
3. effectively communicate to internal and external business stakeholders the complexities of ethical issues, suggesting and analyzing various solutions in order to ensure appropriate business practices and accountability

Use the following steps to complete the project. You will demonstrate an understanding of ethical concepts and of legal business principles and are required to use the course material to support the ideas and conclusions presented.
