The document summarizes the collaboration between NMS Public Affairs, JESS3, and C-SPAN to create innovative online hubs for the 2008 National Conventions and Presidential Debates. It describes how they used open-source technologies and engaged online communities to provide searchable transcripts, videos, and real-time updates. This helped transform C-SPAN's image and introduce their content to new audiences, furthering their mission to inform the public.

The future of [my] work: part 1
Entering my 40s with a 20/20 vision
Introduction:
There are no shortage of articles prognosticating on what the future of work is —and is not. This is not one of those articles.
Rather, this is a personal essay about what works and doesn't work for me in my relationship to my work. In part 1, I will focus on what works. In future installments, I would like to explore what doesn't work. I would also like to venture back in time to make sense of the current moment in time. My Time Travel / Leslie Bradshaw Archives projects will aid in this self discovery and if anything worth sharing emerges, I will.
Along with many other voices, I have, at times, documented accents—and descents—up mountainsides in my career; in my body; and the interplay between the two. I plan to reflect on these from a sort of self-history (her-story) meets personal archeologist lens in future writings.
For now, I share a poem I wrote in the park on Tuesday June 8th while I waited for my mom to pick me up.
How to Use Social Media as a Female LegislatorLeslie Bradshaw
This is a presentation that I developed for the National Foundation for Women Legislators. The goal is for their members to be able to use social media to engage their constituents, manage their personal brands and extend their campaigns.
Based on my work in the private and public sector, as well as personal projects and volunteer work, this is a collection of "best practices," stats and "big ideas" for how to use social media as an elected female (and, of course, these lessons apply more broadly as well).
Girl power!

Social Media for Family Physician Advocacy and RecruitmentLeslie Bradshaw
This is a presentation that I gave to the Florida Academy of Family Physicians in Jacksonville, Florida on October 24, 2009. The content is a general introduction to social media theory, with an emphasis on how the elements of community, authenticity, family and intimacy found in social media directly correlate to family physicians. Additionally, FAFP has been engaging younger doctors through their Facebook page and are looking to take this to the next level.
From Anonymity to Translucency: From Where We’ve Been to Where We’re Going – ...Leslie Bradshaw
These are a few slides that I developed over the summer of 2009 that map out the way we have and (potentially) will engage as human beings, with one another and with brands, concepts, issues and politicians, online.
These thoughts have been made possible by inspiration from my work at New Media Strategies and JESS3, thanks to my discussion on these topics at Transparency Camp in DC (Feb / Mar '09), through my personal journey from online IP enforcer at Arent Fox, to my own digital presence as /LeslieBradshaw and via many conversations and campaigns with co-workers, chief among them, Bill Beutler.
Social Media Crash Course for NLC's "Internet, Politics & Technology" Weekend...Leslie Bradshaw
I had the honor and privilege to present this deck to the Fellows of the DC Chapter of the New Leaders Council at the New Media Strategies offices in Arlington, VA. It's my hodge-podge of slides that give an overview of social media -- for personal and organizational use. Gems about NLC's weekend training can be found by searching #nlc-dc on Twitter. More about NLC here: http://www.newleaderscouncil.org/
I gave this presentation to Jeff Bieber's American University COMM 567 class (which is focused on "Communications and Social Change"). The class is in the progress of mapping out a sexual assault awareness/prevention campaign targeted to the American University campus and is having a variety of guest speakers join them on their journey. As someone always interested and previously very active with this issue, the experience could have not been more meaningful. Social Media is absolutely a tool in the tool belt for Social Change.
Leslie Bradshaw // Online News Association // 9.13.08Leslie Bradshaw
In September 2008, I spent the morning training and learning from about 40 journalists at the Online News Association's annual conference. Topic du jour? How to use Twitter to live blog (as a journalist/reporter). At times, I fancy myself as both and have had a few great successes (WHCD, ISEF, et al.) Check it out and enjoy!
Leslie Bradshaw // NMS // Generator Forum 12.11.08Leslie Bradshaw
In December 2008, I presented this to an audience of folks involved in school choice and education reform at the "Generator Forum." Many thanks to the Friedman Foundation for hosting the event (and for inviting me!)

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

Welcome to the new Mizzima Weekly !
Mizzima Media Group is pleased to announce the relaunch of Mizzima Weekly. Mizzima is dedicated to helping our readers and viewers keep up to date on the latest developments in Myanmar and related to Myanmar by offering analysis and insight into the subjects that matter. Our websites and our social media channels provide readers and viewers with up-to-the-minute and up-to-date news, which we don’t necessarily need to replicate in our Mizzima Weekly magazine. But where we see a gap is in providing more analysis, insight and in-depth coverage of Myanmar, that is of particular interest to a range of readers.

Women have three distinct types of involvement: direct involvement in terrorist acts; enabling of others to commit such acts; and facilitating the disengagement of others from violent or extremist groups.
