- Hello and welcome to NEFA. We are glad that you have joined us today to learn more about our organization and how you can get involved. Today we will review a bit about our history, but we will spend most of our time on the grant programs and its direct impact on the artists.
- Founded in 1976, NEFA is one of six regional arts organizations established with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to strengthen the national arts infrastructure by cultivating the arts on a regional level. NEFA’s programs aim to provide access to high quality arts experiences for the underserved, including projects that feature artistic expressions from diverse cultures and geographies. The NEFA represents the New England region, which consists of 6 states: Connecticut Maine Massachusetts New Hampshire Rhode Island Vermont 3. Today, NEFA’s programs are assisting our regional artists and regional arts organizations through grants and other opportunities in dance, music, theater, and public art. The grants and programs have helped these artists increase their reach both nationally and internationally. We will learn more about these programs in the next slide. 4. - NEFA supports artists across many forms of expression and many geographies, connecting collaborators and communities, fueling creative exchange and public discourse, as well as strengthening the creative economy. 2. The support is through 8 categories of programs, which you see listed. 3. An example is Center Stage. This public-private arts program is initiated by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and produced by the New England Foundation for the Arts 4. In this clip, Jacob Yarrow of the University of Iowa speaks to the impact of Center Stage and NEFA programming on his campus community. 2. This is but one example of how NEFA is bringing arts into communities while helping educators share world culture with their students and campus communities.
- Here, we will hear from a NEFA grant recipient, Adele Myer, as she speaks the impact of the NEFA on her career. Photos credits go to Ivan Singer and Christopher Duggan. (play video) As you can see, it is grants and programs offered by the NEFA that are shaping the future of the artists and providing visual and performing arts to our communities both regionally and nationally.
- Majority of NEFA’s revenue comes from corporate and individual giving. As you can see, NEFA works to be great stewards of these donated funds as majority of the funds are returned into grant making and other services that support the artists and presenting organizations. Through grants, convenings, online tools, creative economy research, and pioneering partnerships, NEFA continues 35+ years of supporting the arts.
