While studying at the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management, the primary focus was to develop MVP’s (minimum viable products) for possible and real-world business entities. Studio Visível was a concept predicated on the idea of local artisans connecting with local enthusiasts: the success and impressions the artists in our community leave. Our mission on this project was to create an atmosphere of artistic and interactive, social sophistication while increasing community awareness and support to local artisans. In short, we wanted to build an entire community arts festival under one roof.

Jay Pather presents on the Cape Town public art festival, Infecting the City: Public art has always been part of who we are on this continent and in this country. The interconnectedness of the African “us” has often been impeded however, throwing people apart and far away from each other, creating a physical and psychic separation. Infecting the City is a small attempt at igniting this interconnectedness through artistic expression, making public space public.

The computer has taken over as the dominant method for just about every task in today's world. Writing and editing are no different and this paper looks at how the latter has evolved since the beginning of the digital era. Through the compilation of multiple sources, as well as personal interviews with individuals who have worked in the field since before the shift, I have explored how editing is best accomplished in today's technology-savvy world, how the position of editor is viewed after the advent of the computer and the Internet, and where those passionate about the profession should be focusing their efforts to shape the future of editing.

Editor's Notes
Hello and welcome to NEFA. We are glad that you have joined us today to learn more about our organization and how you can get involved. Today we will review a bit about our history, but we will spend most of our time on the grant programs and its direct impact on the artists.
Founded in 1976, NEFA is one of six regional arts organizations established with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts to strengthen the national arts infrastructure by cultivating the arts on a regional level. NEFA’s programs aim to provide access to high quality arts experiences for the underserved, including projects that feature artistic expressions from diverse cultures and geographies.
The NEFA represents the New England region, which consists of 6 states:
Connecticut
Maine
Massachusetts
New Hampshire
Rhode Island
Vermont
3. Today, NEFA’s programs are assisting our regional artists and regional arts organizations through grants and other opportunities in dance, music, theater, and public art. The grants and programs have helped these artists increase their reach both nationally and internationally. We will learn more about these programs in the next slide.
4. Source for graphic: discovernewengland.org
NEFA supports artists across many forms of expression and many geographies, connecting collaborators and communities, fueling creative exchange and public discourse, as well as strengthening the creative economy.
2. The support is through 8 categories of programs, which you see listed.
3. An example is Center Stage. This public-private arts program is initiated by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and produced by the New England Foundation for the Arts
4. Please enjoy this video on Center Stage.
1.Here, we will learn how the nation is benefitting from NEFA’s Center Stage programs. In this clip, Jacob Yarrow of the University of Iowa speaks to the impact of Center Stage and NEFA programming on his campus community.
2. The except is taken from his interview with Stacy White, Cultural Programs Division Chief, U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The entire interview is on You Tube.

3. This is but one example of how NEFA is bringing arts into communities while helping educators share world culture with their students and campus communities.
Here, we will hear from a NEFA grant recipient, Adele Myer, as she speaks the impact of the NEFA on her career. Photos credits go to Ivan Singer and Christopher Duggan.

As you can see, it is grants and programs offered by the NEFA that are shaping the future of the artists and providing visual and performing arts to our communities both regionally and nationally.
Majority of NEFA’s revenue comes from corporate and individual giving.
As you can see, NEFA works to be great stewards of these donated funds as majority of the funds are returned into grant making and other services that support the artists and presenting organizations.
Through grants, convenings, online tools, creative economy research, and pioneering partnerships, NEFA continues 35+ years of supporting the arts.
If what you have seen today impacts you personally or economically, we hope that you will help NEFA continue make a difference in the lives of artists and our communities.
