Interior Design is an art of using color, form and shape innovatively. Space is enhanced through design, is made to speak out for itself, and is made purposeful. Interior design is a skill of creating things to admire and feel the intensity of it. By blending creativity and imagination with the needs of the client, interior space can be made artistic as well as satisfying and fulfilling. My passion for interior design started at an early age. I was always interested in painting and art and I was charmed with color and landscapes. Gradually I harnessed my talents by learning about the color scheme and about perspective drawing. My experience grew once I started my internship in an interior design firm where I learned how to use design software and other tools. Being a designer as well as a site coordinator I learned social skills and to how to interact with clients, vendors, and site workers. This portfolio exhibits the breadth of my talents as an interior designer. I have included residential projects as well as commercial ones. Among the residential projects I have shown my capabilities to design exterior as well as interior spaces, using a variety of materials to suit numerous styles, be it contemporary or traditional. I have shown I am able to design showroom and retail space as well as office space for commercial projects, highlighting both creativity and purpose.

Lighting was one of the key tools I used to create different feels for each room in the PremDadlani Residence. This was a 3 bedroom apartment located in the McNichols Road neighborhood, a posh residential area of Chennai. I worked closely with both MrDadlani and his wife to blend my creativity with their needs.
I used a distinctive design to enhance the living room and foyer areas, where Mr. Dadlani required a partition. With the creative use of cylindrical glass and lighting I was able to not only partition the room but also provide a romantic candlelit atmosphere to the living room.Master Bedroom 1Kid’s BedroomResidential ProjectPujaAreaElevation of Television UnitWooden paneling with approved veneer and 6mm “V” groove3” depth inside with duco paintTelevision“L” shaped plywood stand with 3mm Korean topKorean top finished table for DVD player and speakersDining RoomMaster Bedroom 2TV UnitPartition ElevationLiving RoomKitchenFoyerPartitionMaid’s Room
One of the challenges of this project was to create the illusion of large space and sophistication in the bathrooms given limited area. This was achieved using marble of neutral tones on the walls, glass shower cubicles, and large mirrors, together with the proper lighting. To give each bathroom a unique look I designed inlays and patterning to accent the marble. This was an added challenge due to the high quality marble used which had to be carefully cut and embedded.Kid’s BathroomBlack MarquaneStonemannNew Florentine BeigeResidential ProjectMaster Bathroom 1Black Gold PothroGrigoCarnacMaster Bathroom 2Breccia AuroraNew Perlato
Mubarak Ali Residence project was one of my first projects as a freelance designer. It was an odd-shaped villa located on Spurtank Road, a posh area of Chennai. This villa was built to resemble a sailing ship. Because of this architectural layout, wide middle and narrow ends, the villa required support columns and connecting beams at odd angles, creating nooks and niches, which made the interior design a challenging task.
To complement the architectural layout and unusual geometry within each room I used a contemporary style of design for the interiors. Often working with the architect and builder, I designed the false ceiling and furniture of the master bedroom, living room and adjoining corridors. I played with geometrical lines and shapes in the design of the master bedroom. I created lines using wood panel with veneer on the headboard and followed this format onto the pillars, walls, and furniture to create uniformity within the room. Each piece of furniture had to be designed and custom built for this villa so that it would fit into corners and niches. In this way the corner spaces and niches were made useful.Bookshelf in wall nicheBed Side wall and Headboard DetailsResidential ProjectMaster BedroomLayoutDressing roomcabinetry layoutDressing room cabinetry with sliding door
False Ceiling- Restroom and Dressing Room LayoutThis geometrical design theme was carried forth to the false ceiling design as well. I created multiple levels of false ceiling, illuminating each step with cove lighting. Indirect lighting as well as focused lighting was also used on the furniture to keep with the contemporary style, as well as give the rooms a warm feeling.Residential ProjectFalse Ceiling Workin ProgressFalse Ceiling- Master Bedroom Layout
Using a combination of brick red honed slate and white cement fiber board I designed the exteriors of the Quil Fireworks residence located in Kumbakkonam, Tamilnadu. This was accented with metal and glass canopies for the balconies and open spaces. This contemporary exterior style was made to flow into the interiors as well.Residential Project
Residential ProjectFor the small bedroom I used black and white as the main color scheme to give it some elegance and sophistication. This combined with sleek metal furniture gave the room its contemporary look.Residential ProjectFor the living room I used an oriental inspired theme for the wallpaper and ceiling. The yin-yang design was made to stand out with black duco painted wood and cove lighting illumination. Keeping with the contemporary style I used sleek metal furniture. In the corner of the room I provided a portable bar which could be neatly tucked away in the cabinetry. The Sunjay Shah Residence is a 3 bedroom flat, located in Kilpauk Gardens, Chennai. Mr Shah wanted a new look to his apartment and bring in some modern and lively furniture.
We decided to use an Oriental theme. Since oriental themes mostly use wood, we used Burma Teak in most of the furnishings. This wood is one of the most expensive and high quality woods and we used it for the furniture, door framesand wall paneling.Residential ProjectWe ensured that the furniture designed for this apartment had a lower seating height, keeping with the oriental theme. This design was presented to Mr Shah using 3DSMax, to give an overall perspective of the apartment.Sunshine Ceramics is a 3 level commercial retail showroom located in Pallavaram, Chennai. My task was to design showroom space that would bring attention to the ceramic tiles and bathroom fixtures being displayed.
My design ensured that the showroom was spacious while also having enough display area for the products. By using Burma Teak in the false ceiling and natural veneers on the walls I was able to create a rustic ambiance for the showroom. This use of natural wood allowed the ceramic tiles and bathroom fixtures on display to stand out. Commercial ProjectGround FloorSecond FloorFirst Floor

A warm and bright color theme to match the logo design was my main concept I used for the 70mm office space. This business, located in TTK road, Chennai, is an online DVD rental service. Their main requirement was to make effective use of the limited space. This was the main challenge: to accommodate a conference room, multiple cabins and cubicles, several workstations, and a DVD storage room.Commercial Project
To add a touch of flair to each of the rooms I used glass and lighting effects. For the cabin desks I designed a curved-shaped glass top. For the conference room meeting table I also used glass which was lighted from below to illuminate and bring focus to the table.Commercial Project
