the first black-owned, independent radio station in the newly democratic
South Africa.
Informative, and largely pan-African, this is a musical journey that travels
across continents and timelines. With in-depth interviews and features,
it’s a very well established show with a loyal listenership.
People from all over the world tune in to enjoy her mix of urban, archival,
deeply-rooted, contemporary, cutting-edge sounds. Each show is

3. AFRO-GLOBAL GROOVE SESSIONS:
'GROOVE CULTURE' & 'UZURI
EXPERIENCE'
These cutting-edge DJ sessions offer a unique blend of diverse beats –
Afro-groove meets Acid Jazz, with old and nu-Funk alongside Latino,
Lounge, Jazzy-House, hip-hop, roots, reggae and much more – an
international sound presented with an African soul!
Since NickyB began as a DJ in 1990, she has filled dance floors and
amassed a following with her captivating sets, both locally and
internationally.
With quality music that bridges generations and connects countries,
these ‘live’ mixes are renowned for their broad appeal.
Producing innovative events, that embrace diversity and tastefully offer
the unexpected - she DJ’s alongside musicians, dancers, poets and
performers - each experience is a celebration - 'alive', eclectic and
interactive!
Over the past 20 years she has been the resident DJ at various venues;
and has performed prolifically as a 'live' DJ at clubs, festivals, events and
functions - both private, commercial and corporate.
'Uzuri Experience' brings together NickyB and Mthuthu...two of SA's
most acclaimed and versatile global-beats specialists.
'Uzuri' is the Swahili word for 'beauty; and this dynamic DJ-duo co-host
these music-driven, interactive events that appeal to all the senses!

4. PROJECTS
As a pioneer of the “Public Art Movement”, she began painting murals in
1990, and produced and facilitated over 70 public art works in South
Africa and abroad.
As an educator – she has facilitated courses on “African Music” and
“African Radio and is involved in developing curriculum on African and
World Music.
As an expert in World Music, she has been a judge for the Kora All
African Music Awards, and the South African Music Awards; and is often
invited as a panelist / speaker for seminars.
As a writer – she is a regular contributor for esteemed publications, both
locally, internationally and throughout the continent.
She also researches and writes musician’s biographies, profiles and
relevant information for CD sleeves, and has done music research and
selection for film and television.
