Arca’s aesthetic is one that is particularly unique. While most arts have either gone for the Goth, Metal or
Artpop aesthetic, Arca has gone for something more unusual and innovative. Arca uses Blue and Black
lightning and digital effects to create a mysterious and space themed imagery. He also wears odd female
clothing, mainly bots and leather costumes. His aesthetic uneasing for many people, which was Arca’s
intention, as he mentioned in a recent interview. Arca also explores his sexuality in many audio-visual pieces
of his work, as well as his depressive emotions. Many claim that Arca’s only motive for having this specific
aesthetic is to gain more popularity and intrigue within his fan base, while others claim his aesthetic is an
artistic presentation of his own emotions and ideas.
Who has Arca worked with?
Despite having little to none coverage in the
music scene, Arca is responsible between much
of the success of famous artists such as Bjork
and Kanye West. In 2013, he added a fair share
of his production into Kanye West’s avant-
garde album Yeezus. He has also worked with
Hudson Mohawke (of Warp Records), Young
Chop and the famous FKA Twigs. His notable
and current work was co-writing and co-
producing Bjork’s album Vulnicura.
