2015 Service Awards
This year’s Service Awards were held on March 5, 2015. Employees were
recognized based on how many years they have been loyal to the company.
In all, there were over 50 recipients that received awards this year. This an-
nual event gives employers the opportunity to celebrate and show appreci-
ation for the employees and all the hard work they put into their jobs.
Custom gifts were supplied by the TharpeRobbins Company.
Among recipients was 60-year employee Ann Cartner. Ann started working
at Schneider Mills when she was 22 years old as a switchboard operator.
Now, she works as Administrative Warehouse
Clerk.
“I enjoy the job that I have,” Ann said.
“My fellow employees are good to work with.
Sometimes a job can be difficult, but always do
your best to do good quality work. The mill pro-
gresses when everyone does their best.”
Thank you to all the employees for your dedication and outstanding
service at both Schneider Mills and Composite Fabrics of America.
“Ann has been a valuable addition to Schneider Mills,” said
President Hank Byrd.
“She has been dedicated, loyal and precise. She has been at
work through good and bad. Every day, she has driven 40
miles to work through rain, sleet and snow, and set an exam-
ple for everyone else. We are lucky to have her as one of our
most dedicated associates.”

 Start small. Take a jog in the evenings or wake up 15 minutes earlier than usual to get in some cardio.
 Gradually add to your routine as you become accustomed. Record your time and activity, and keep a log so you can
look back at your progress throughout the week.
 Take advantage of the beautiful weather. Plan a family hike or take your kids to the park.
 Use the new gym! Find a workout partner that can exercise at the same time with you. Having someone with similar
exercise goals helps keep you both motivated.
 Ideally, you should drink at least 8 glasses of water every day.
 Water keeps you energized, and can help curb cravings
 If your body is not getting enough water, you may experience dry skin, headaches, dizziness, muscle cramps, drowsi-
ness, and irritability.
 Food journals can be very beneficial for those who are trying to eat healthy. You can even take pictures with your
phone and keep a photographic food diary. This helps keep you constantly aware of what you put into your body.
 Start a garden so you can grow your own fresh fruits and vegetables at your own convenience
 Research your own healthy recipes and plan out your meals for the entire week rather than for that day
 Think about the rule of five: check the labels on items in your pantry– if there are more than five grams of fat on the
label, toss it
 Visit farmers markets in your community to support local farmers. Visit www.localharvest.org to find events, farmers
markets, and farms near you.

Health and Wellness Fair
4
The Schneider Mills Health and Wellness
Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13th
.
We have a health fair each year to provide
our employees with information about the
many services offered in this county, as
well as some of the surrounding counties.
This year, we have invited some new agen-
cies, in addition to the ones who come
each year.
We will be targeting different age groups,
and grouping some agencies together.
 Partnership for Children/Head Start
 Communities in Schools/4-H Clubs
 YMCA, Alexander Parks and Recreation
 Dept. of Social Services/Senior Center
 Urgent Care of Mountain View
 Health Dept./Red Cross
 Alexander County Library
Wilkes Regional Hospital will be in the training room doing blood pressure, BMI, and health
screens. Blue Cross Blue Shield and Benefits Solutions will also be in attendance. Like last year,
you will be given the opportunity to sign up for your yearly health screening. The screenings
will take place at the end of July and the beginning of August.
We will have a raffle for door prizes at the end of the day. To be eligible, you need to visit at
least five tables. Your raffle ticket will have places for the vendors to sign.
CFA Continues to Grow
As we enter our 6th
year in business, CFA is continuing to experience solid growth. 2014 finished
strong and 2015 has started out even better. Compared to our first quarter sales last year, we
are up almost 30% this year. This progress comes from several factors. Our sales staff has been
hard at work positioning CFA as competitive vendor to the composites fabrication industry. In
addition, our presence in the infrastructure reinforcing market continues to expand and solidify.
Specifically, we have multiple customers who have recently achieved ICC certification (similar to
ISO, but for the infrastructure industry) with CFA fabric.
As we grow, we know that CFA must continue to be innovative and bring new products to mar-
ket while improving our quality, flexibility, and responsiveness. To expand our weaving capacity
and flexibility, we are adding another loom with a special proprietary configuration that will al-
low us to run larger fibers that are more difficult to weave, while also improving quality. We
have also invested in creels that will have more positions per buggy compared to standard ones
so that we can maximize floor space and improve efficiency when style changing. Having plenty
of creels on hand allows us to respond quickly to demanding customer lead times.
Currently, CFA is running 2 shifts 5-6 days per week. However, we are expecting big growth this
year and we are not far from implementing a third shift. This will be a major milestone for us,
and will allow us to reach our full manufacturing capabilities. We have high expectations for this
year, and I have every confidence that our team is up to the task!
-Matthew McPherson (President)

Workplace Fitness
The Schneider Mills Fitness Center has been up and running for almost a
month, and appears to be very successful. So far, over 115 employees
have signed up to use the new equipment.
Scott Loggins in Slashing finds time to go to the gym after work.
“The gym is very convenient,” Scott said. “The quality of the equipment is
great. I’ve lost at least 20 pounds since I have been using the gym.”
If you haven’t yet, make time to go try out the new fitness center. Pictured
right: Body Builder Bill Brinkley, Trudy Lowe, and Leon Hubbard as Bill
teaches employees how to use the new equipment.
Schneider Mills has been a member of the Parachute Indus-
try Association since 2002. Schneider has been actively par-
ticipating in meetings for the past 13 years. These meetings
generally last three days, except in the year where the sym-
posium is taking place, as it was this year.
The symposium is a week-long trade show for individuals and
businesses from all over the globe who are connected to the
parachute industry through both the military and sport para-
chuting. Representatives from the U.S. Army Natick, U. S. Air
Force Wright-Patterson, U.S. Navy China-Lake, and Defense
Logistics Agency are all in regular attendance. Our customers
HLC and B&O/Performance Textiles Division were present
and Brookwood attended the symposium event all held in
Daytona Beach Florida.
The sport parachuting side of the business continues to grow,
and Schneider Mills is a large supplier of broad fabrics to the
industry. I was given the privilege to tour Performance De-
sign with Vijay Amirthiraj from Premiere Fibers in Florida,
and I saw how the parachutes are manufactured for the mili-
tary and sport trade. Owner Bill Coe gave us a tour and spoke
with us about developments needed in the industry. Perfor-
mance Design is a world leader in parachute manufacturing
with a very driven staff who are always looking for ways to
manufacture a better product. Our fabrics were being
spread out onto vacuum surfaced laser cutting table with-
out the aid of a human, and each panel was cut through
computer driven system, optimizing every inch of the fabric
for use in the canopy. We supply fabric styles 5103, 5121,
5128, 5133, 5194, and others both through HLC Industries
and B&O/Performance to this customer. Typically a person
pays thousands of dollars for a PD parachute system, and
just like any item you may buy for that amount of money, a
defect is not usually acceptable.
We also met with a company out of Romania that purchas-
es our fabrics through HLC Industries. Condor Parachutes
and Flight Equipment in Bucharest, Romania manufactures
systems for their country’s military. Our Schneider Mills
fabric is actually flying in Romania. I met with the Loredana
Sandu (General Manager), Dan Zamfirache (Design Engi-
neer), Liliana Olteanu (Quality Manager), and Vinny Salati-
no from HLC, who were all very pleased with our fabrics,
and were excited to meet members of the supply chain
from both Schneider and Colorworks, Inc.
Take pride in your work here at Schneider Mills, as we are a
global leader parachute fabrics.

In addition, our presence in the infrastructure reinforcing market continues to expand and solidify. Specifically, we have multiple customers who have recently achieved ICC certification (similar to ISO, but for the infrastructure industry) with CFA fabric. As we grow, we know that CFA must continue to be innovative and bring new products to mar- ket while improving our quality, flexibility, and responsiveness. To expand our weaving capacity and flexibility, we are adding another loom with a special proprietary configuration that will al- low us to run larger fibers that are more difficult to weave, while also improving quality. We have also invested in creels that will have more positions per buggy compared to standard ones so that we can maximize floor space and improve efficiency when style changing. Having plenty of creels on hand allows us to respond quickly to demanding customer lead times. Currently, CFA is running 2 shifts 5-6 days per week. However, we are expecting big growth this year and we are not far from implementing a third shift. This will be a major milestone for us, and will allow us to reach our full manufacturing capabilities. We have high expectations for this year, and I have every confidence that our team is up to the task! -Matthew McPherson (President)
  • 5. 5 Workplace Fitness The Schneider Mills Fitness Center has been up and running for almost a month, and appears to be very successful. So far, over 115 employees have signed up to use the new equipment. Scott Loggins in Slashing finds time to go to the gym after work. “The gym is very convenient,” Scott said. “The quality of the equipment is great. I’ve lost at least 20 pounds since I have been using the gym.” If you haven’t yet, make time to go try out the new fitness center. Pictured right: Body Builder Bill Brinkley, Trudy Lowe, and Leon Hubbard as Bill teaches employees how to use the new equipment. Schneider Mills has been a member of the Parachute Indus- try Association since 2002. Schneider has been actively par- ticipating in meetings for the past 13 years. These meetings generally last three days, except in the year where the sym- posium is taking place, as it was this year. The symposium is a week-long trade show for individuals and businesses from all over the globe who are connected to the parachute industry through both the military and sport para- chuting. Representatives from the U.S. Army Natick, U. S. Air Force Wright-Patterson, U.S. Navy China-Lake, and Defense Logistics Agency are all in regular attendance. Our customers HLC and B&O/Performance Textiles Division were present and Brookwood attended the symposium event all held in Daytona Beach Florida. The sport parachuting side of the business continues to grow, and Schneider Mills is a large supplier of broad fabrics to the industry. I was given the privilege to tour Performance De- sign with Vijay Amirthiraj from Premiere Fibers in Florida, and I saw how the parachutes are manufactured for the mili- tary and sport trade. Owner Bill Coe gave us a tour and spoke with us about developments needed in the industry. Perfor- mance Design is a world leader in parachute manufacturing with a very driven staff who are always looking for ways to manufacture a better product. Our fabrics were being spread out onto vacuum surfaced laser cutting table with- out the aid of a human, and each panel was cut through computer driven system, optimizing every inch of the fabric for use in the canopy. We supply fabric styles 5103, 5121, 5128, 5133, 5194, and others both through HLC Industries and B&O/Performance to this customer. Typically a person pays thousands of dollars for a PD parachute system, and just like any item you may buy for that amount of money, a defect is not usually acceptable. We also met with a company out of Romania that purchas- es our fabrics through HLC Industries. Condor Parachutes and Flight Equipment in Bucharest, Romania manufactures systems for their country’s military. Our Schneider Mills fabric is actually flying in Romania. I met with the Loredana Sandu (General Manager), Dan Zamfirache (Design Engi- neer), Liliana Olteanu (Quality Manager), and Vinny Salati- no from HLC, who were all very pleased with our fabrics, and were excited to meet members of the supply chain from both Schneider and Colorworks, Inc. Take pride in your work here at Schneider Mills, as we are a global leader parachute fabrics. Parachute Association Industry- Annual Spring Meeting 2015 -Curt Parker (Quality Manager)
