What a busy term this has been - athletics, swimming and how the times flies. The staff and I
wish everyone a happy Easter and extended holiday period. Term 2 commences, Monday, 20
April, 8:45 sharp.
A big thank you to all the families who were able to support the staff and their child swimming.
There has been some great progress of student’s abilities over the nine sessions and although I
was not free in the last week in the junior pool - the confidence of the first time swimmers has just
grown. At big thank you to Mrs Olive and Mrs McNamara for “getting” into the pool - without their
willingness to get into the pool our groups sizes would be a bit large. Also thank you to Ismay
Howden for taking over my groups - this was a big help.
Swimming has no cost attached to it, as the ILT provide funds for pool entry and two coaches to
support swimming across the Invercargill Schools. The transport to and from the pool is partly
supported by the ILT and your school donations plus your donations also provide the extension
coach for the big pool.
TERM 2 IMPORTANT DATE - TEACHER ONLY HALF DAY:
At the last Board meeting, the Board have approved that the school close early on Monday, 4 May
at 12:00. This is to enable three schools to combine for a writing moderation workshop. Tisbury
will be combining with Woodlands and Gorge Road Teaching Staff to work together to develop
their skills on making overall teacher judgements in writing. This is very exciting as it is the first
time we have worked with other schools - combining all our strengths.
CROSS COUNTRY - This year Tisbury School is responsible for organising the Southern Zones
Cross Country. Please diary these dates: 15 May - School Cross Country; 22 May Southern Zone
Cross Country (postponement date: 29 May). Venue: Sled Dog Trail at Fosbender Park (over the
Oreti River - turn right into park). We will be seeking helpers to run these days - so please keep
these in mind when planning your term. More information next term.
ROAD SAFETY PETITION:
In today’s newsletter there is a copy of the Road Safety Committee’s petition - they would like you
to get as many signatures as you can, even from the wider school community, so that a submis-
sion can be made to the ICC to have the speed limited reduce on the Gorge Road Highway. All
petitions are to be returned to school by Friday 1 May. More forms will be available from school.
THREE WAY CONFERENCES: (Student/Parents/Teachers)
Three way conferences are an important opportunity for students, parents and teachers to cele-
brate where your child has progressed in their learning and defining where to for the next half of
the school year. Three afternoons have been set for these to happen, dates: 2, 3, 4 June - times:
3:15 to 6:00pm. All families will be given an opportunity to select times through the School Inter-
view Website. Instructions on how to request times will come out next term.
GYPSY DAY - MOVING TO ANOTHER SCHOOL
It is coming up to that time of year again, when some of our families will be moving out of the area
for work purposes. If you know you are moving and haven’t advised the school, please contact
the office between 9:00 and 12:00 and advise your possible next school. This helps with deter-
mining roll numbers and possible out of zone places that may be available for the remainder of
the school year.
125th SCHOOL CELEBRATION:
2016 is the year to celebrate 125 years of Tisbury School - for this to occur there needs to be a
sub committee that is willing to drive and organise the event. If you are interested, or know of
others in the wider community, who would be willing members, please contact the school and
leave your name and phone number.
