The Minister of Education confirmed that all primary and secondary schools in Trinidad and Tobago reopened successfully on January 4th, 2016. This included Vistabella Presbyterian Primary School which had 400 of its 475 students return after it closed last term due to electrical issues. Attendance was impacted in 11 schools due to roadblocks, but Santa Rosa Government Primary School classes fully resumed after issues with its water pump and plumbing were resolved last term. The Minister thanked officials for their work to ensure schools opened and called on students to work seriously while acknowledging teachers' dedication in challenging conditions.

The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education and Dr. the Honourable Lovell Francis, Minister in the Ministry of Education and their technical team met with a team from the Division of Education, Youth Affairs and Sport of the Tobago House of Assembly on Tuesday January 5th, 2016 at the Ministry’s Head Office, Haynes and Alexandra Streets, St. Clair. The major objective was to cement ties between the Ministry of Education and the Tobago House of Assembly. Among the topics discussed were the finalization of an MOU at the ECCE level, payment of ECCE teachers’ salaries in Tobago, the Textbook Loan Programme, and the provision of laptops.
Speaking during the meeting, Minister Garcia said he was pleased to be meeting with the Division and told Assemblyman Huey Cadette, Secretary of Education, Youth Affairs and Sport that he was aware of the fact that many teachers at the ECCE level in Tobago did not have salaries that were on par with their counterparts in Trinidad and he would like to ensure that there is equity across the board. He also advised that the issue of including the ECCE in the Education Act will be discussed at length during the National Consultation on Education.
Minister Garcia also assured Assemblyman Cadette that students will benefit from the Textbook Loan Programme in Tobago as it is treated as an Educational District. He emphasized he would welcome representation from Tobago on the Textbook Evaluation Committee, as government is changing its approach to the procurement of textbooks for the 2016 fiscal period. On the issue of the provision of laptops, Minister Garcia said a decision will be made in the coming weeks as the original objectives of this initiative were not being met.
He stressed that all of these issues will be discussed at the National Consultation on Education in February. Assemblyman Cadette indicated that he welcomed the move to devote an entire day to the session in Tobago and would be working with the Ministry to assist with the planning and hosting of the Consultation.

The Education Minister assured the public that textbooks are available in Trinidad and Tobago schools. He explained that 90% of textbooks are currently available, and the remaining 10% deficit will be topped up. While a full textbook replacement was not possible due to financial constraints, excess textbooks from schools with surplus supplies will be redistributed to schools needing more. The Minister stated that principals have been efficiently distributing available textbooks, which cover a wide range of subjects and are generally no older than three years old. Therefore, parents and students have no need to panic about textbooks for the academic year.

This document is the Education Sector Strategic Plan for the Ministry of Education of Trinidad and Tobago for 2011-2015. It outlines the Ministry's vision, mission, values and guiding principles for transforming the education system. These include improving early childhood education, student achievement, teacher training, school safety, use of technology, and engagement with stakeholders. Odoo has a tool called Reception Report that can be used to complete this assignment. The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago MINISTRY OF EDUCATION CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION 18 Alexandra Street, St. Clair, Port of Spain, Trinidad Phone: 1-868-628-1581/622-1088 Fax: 1-868-628-2088 www.moe.gov.tt NEWS RELEASE 4th January, 2016 SUCCESSFUL REOPENING OF SCHOOLS Minister of Education, The Honourable Anthony Garcia is confirming all primary and secondary schools have opened today (January 4th, 2016) and are in a state of readiness. This includes the Vistabella Presbyterian Primary School which has a full turnout of teachers and 400 out of 475 students reoccupying the school building since it was closed during the last semester due to electrical problems. He said due to roadblocks in the St. Patrick district, students’ attendance in eleven (11) schools was adversely affected. These schools are Guapo Government Primary School; Vance River RC Primary; Brighton AC Primary; La Brea RC Primary; Point Fortin AC Primary; Point Fortin RC Primary; Point Fortin ASJA Primary School; Holy Name Convent; Point Fortin East, Vessigny Secondary School and the Point Fortin West Secondary. Additionally, Minister Garcia said classes at the Santa Rosa Government Primary School has fully resumed today following early dismissals last term due to a malfunctioning water pump, toilets and plumbing problems. Speaking on the issue of the reopening of schools, Minister Garcia said, “I would like to thank the Education Facilities Company Limited, its contractors and officials from the Ministry of Education who have worked assiduously to ensure that all schools were opened today.” He further called on students to ensure that they take their schoolwork seriously, and acknowledged that many teachers operate under challenging conditions, but said he sincerely appreciates their dedication to duty and willingness to provide a high quality education to the country’s children.
